How does this camelbak deliver 20% more water per sip?

It's a bigger hose and bigger bite thing than what they used to use....

water is one of the heaviest items a hiker would carry and should be close to the body... so why this configuration?

I use this as extra insulation inside my Camelbak Lobo hydration pack. I work a 12-16 hour workday outside in 90-100 degree humid heat and often go through two full reservoirs per day. This configuration makes it easy to carry my pre-filled second reservoir to work. It keeps my water cold all day to the point that I still have ice cubes at the end of the day. The insulated bladder slides perfectly right into the lobo backpack. The clips on the side also allow this insulater to be clipped to the outside of a regular backpack? It never crossed my mind to use this configuration as a standalone. I don't think it would work well.

Can I put this inside my velocity trail 100 oz to keep the water cool?

It helps to keep the water cool, you can tell the difference when you have water out of the tube or out of the reservoir. It gets a little cooler. However, this is not a Yeti.
