Love these things, but never would have guessed the application from the name
These things are great. I stumbled across them doing some other search. Would never have thought to search "cable gland". I have used quite a few for outdoor wiring. I like that there is an assortment. I typically take the wire I'm trying to pass and test it against the assortment to find the best one. I find that relying on the marked sizes isn't always the best choice. I then grab a drill bit that fits the size of the associated hole, drill it, insert the cable gland and pass the wire. A quick turn of the cable gland and it's on.The end of the cable gland that has the cinching/sealing mechanism is on the outside of the box it is inserted into. That's good for the space inside the box, but you need to make sure you have space around the perimeter of the box for the cable gland and cable clearance. I'm glad I planned for that, because it was a tight fit a few times.I have also used a single cable gland to pass multiple wires. The cinching mechanism does a good job of sealing, but I'm sure that it isn't completely water tight. In these cases, I make sure to loop the wire down - lower than the cable gland, so moisture will drip off - instead of traveling to the cable gland and potentially leaking into the box. This is a best practice even if passing a single wire.All in all, I love the convenience of having multiple sizes. They have come in handy many times. I purchased multiple colors to match different applications.
