REVIEW: CS947 Tacima 6 Way Mains Conditioner with Surge Protection
Guys, I bought this, at the marked price, with some trepidation at first. Being a long-entrenched hi-fi / audio fundi, I'm well versed in the advantages of cleaning up the mains input into one's audio equipment, especially via (very costly!) add-on's from the likes of audio luminaries such as Russ Andrews, etc. Simply said, done well, this method of "mains conditioning" has truly dramatic effects in enhancing one's audio sound. This is well proven around the world. So, when I can across this relatively cheap Tacima 6-way mains conditioner, I was immediately interested -- especially at the price asked for -- to use with my secondary audio system which comprised computer storage of music files, tied to CD-burning facilities, acting as a source ( via 3,5mm to RCA cabling) to drive my secondary hi-fi. Long story short, I purchased this Tacima mains conditioner on a whim and, lo and behold, it really works so well! PLEASE NOTE HOWEVER: Like many (newly-installed) hi-fi/audio components, one needs to allow the new components time to "run in"/"bed in." This will not sit well with some sceptical folk, but, truly, one needs to do this -- in every such situation. In other words, install this Tacima mains conditioner properly (easy, just plug it in!) and, making sure that you separate each and every electrical cable from each other (separation is key!) that plugs into the Tacima, including the cable that feeds the Tacima unit, use it then for AT LEAST two weeks. Maybe even three. After that, you will be totally convinced and will be clearly able to hear the now-transformed sound of your system. It's that simple and dramatic. Very obvious improvement in sound. It even works in computer-audio systems by getting rid of all mains-derived noise. Which, by the by, in Britain, is major ... the electrical system in the UK is utterly shocking ('scuse the pun). So, my full blessing for this item. Buy with confidence!

A Surge to buy these!
Well if What HI-Fi say it’s good, it must be :-) It is a piece of artwork (until you plug leads in) and I almost felt like having it on display. I slapped myself round the face and reassured myself I was a Hi-Fi purest and not a fan of the old Lasky Blackpool Illumination type gear. After tucking it away, that should be the end of story and as such it is. I think some people buy this thinking it will add something positive to their system, but in reality it’s about taking the bad away(which is a positive thing :-). If the bad ain’t there it should do nothing except offer you surge protection when your neighbours aerial gets side swiped with lightning or when he tries to resurrect Frankensteins Monster, by plugging him into the mains. Did I do A-B tests? You must be joking. I sat down and put a quality piece of music on that I was fairly familiar with and from memory it sounded the same, and all sounded good so that’s great! I’m reassured it’s there if something nasty tries to creep in on the mains. Of course it’s not there to solve earth loop hum and airborne RF interference etc. As a footnote it was advertised with some ferrite core rings which took some low level motor biking sound away. I’m very pleased with it as it offers six sockets with protection and no noticeable detrimental effects on my Hi-Fi system. Additional note: How I reduced a small existing buzz which seemed to be an earth loop between my power and preamp. I noticed if the preamp lead got near to the Tacima inductor the level increaesed but never totally disappeared by moving the cable away. I played around with the preamp mains lead and noticed in a certain position the noise was greatly reduced. This lead me to make a loop a little bigger than the inductor and move it around. When it was a little bit off Centre the noise almost vanished. I can only guess it’s now inducing noise into the cable out of phase-but it works. See photos. Generally though if you have “no noise”- keep your leads away from the inductor. Additional later note: After changing most of the valves in my amps and inserting an equaliser between them all the noise has gone.

Sonic Improvements
Just bought this device after watching a YouTube video from “A British Audiophile”. I did A/B comparison with and without Tacima CS947, and the electrical interference noise almost disappeared when using Tacima. The noise floor has come down significantly and sound from my B&W CM8s is tiny bit more clear. I would recommend it.
