I am seriously impressed, curious why the foot isnt full on the flash...
I just got my flash in today and did an unboxing and first impression video on my youtube channel Legacy Studio Reviews. I am impressed! The build quality is very impressive, and it feels like its a $500 flash. the ONLY thing I have noticed is when you look at the hot shoe foot, instead of it being a full plastic clip, its 4 different tiny feet that in a fall or a hard bump, I would seriously wonder how quickly they would break. Other than that this flash has my full attention and I am so excited to learn more about it!Check out the full review on my youtube channel "legacy studio reviews" and I also intend to do some future videos learning how to use the flash further. Buy it! Its absolutely worth the money, and with a bit of time it will absolutely be a game changer for your photography.

Great flash for the money so far
So far this flash is working well. I like the diffuser. I'm aware from other reviews that the shoe is plastic and weak, so I got the SquareTrade plan. For anybody trying to do the firmware update, it appears to only work on USB 2.0 ports (USB 3.x failed) but with a USB 2.0 connection it ran quickly and updated the firmware fine. Hopefully they eventually update the driver to support USB 3, according to the driver file, it looks like they wrote the driver code in 2010.I'd give it 5 stars if the shoe frame was more durable and didn't make me think I need an extended warranty with it.

so time will tell just how great this thing is
I just bought this product and did a small shoot with it, so time will tell just how great this thing is. For now I can say, it is pretty awesome. It is built strong and does not feel like a $150.00 speed light. The TTL function was accurate and gave me great lighting. I also used it in manual mode and it performed flawlessly. I really would like to know how Godox made this product, TTL, and kept the cost down so much that they can sell it for $150. I hope this think is working just as good 6 months from now; I will update. For now, I say it is worth every penny and then some. By the way, I use this on my Sony A7Rii.

Best Speedlight for Sony
I love how bright and accurate the light is. Plus with this specific one I can use it to control others while using the light on camera or even just use it AS A CONTROLLER ONLY (I thought it was cool) or with one of the Godox triggers I can have a single light off camera. The possibilities are endless. HSS always works. The initial set up of all the wireless isn't as simple as I think it should be because of alternate menu buttons. But my only drawback to this light is the cycle time. Yes it claims a certain cycle time, but that 's only for a few flashes and with HSS turned off. Turn on HSS and turn up the power and you will have a much slower cycle time on your hands.

Decent Speedlight, but Color Temperature is Off
This is overall a great speedlight, but with one fatal flaw - the color temperature jumps up to 7000k, which is WAY colder/bluer than any real professional speedlight (usually around 5600k). The advertised color temperature is 5600k, which is false. So, I'd be aware of this issue before buying. You may have to use gels to modify the flash.

No Longer Works after One Year
The Godox Thinklite TTL HSS TT685S Camera Flash High Speed 1/8000s GN60 for Sony DSLR Cameras stopped working after one year. When researching online to try to troubleshoot, there were many questions posed to the same problem. The quality of the light itself is fantastic; however the length of time the item worked is not acceptable.

So far so good.
I've just received this so don't know much about it but so far it works fine with my Sony mirrorless cameras. At first I thought it was too large for my hot shoes, only to discover that the flash has a protective cover over the hot shoe contacts. When that's removed, it fits fine.

Great Speedlight. Very powerful flash
I tried plenty other speed lights from Amazon, Best Buy. Settled on this one after seeing and using a friend's 600. This 685 series is a great flash system. Works well enough on my Sony A7ii. Will chew up batteries, so buy some rechargeable type.

You can't ask more for the price.
Didn't use it yet at weddings but it seems reliable. Its very well built but not too heavy. It looks sturdy. The flash head has enough friction to rotate without making a big effort but it stays tighlty on its position when the head is tilted/bounced,TTl accuracy seems consistent. That is great!Compared it with m Sony HVl-F58M and with same aperture shutter and flash power sometimes it looked a little worse (no more than 1/3 of a stop at full power when in direct flash) or it matched the 58M when in bounce mode.Color temperature a little less consistent then Sony HVl-f58M more towards the cold side and it doesn't have the special quickbounce mode but I like it is lighter and much cheaper. The batterys seemed a little hot when taken out but they were not Ni-mh, only the regular Alkaline ones. The battery comportment makes it a little difficult to see the +- signals to insert batterys but I liked that the batterys are inserted in a row and not in a group of a a square 4 like the sony f58m. Probably this is to reduce overheat...The flash is fast to recycle (didn't compare that since I haven't used it seriously..only tested to see modes and to see if it works.Auto focus assist light works well with sony but is slightly longer to actuate than Sony A77 or A99 autofocs assist light but nevermind the AF beam pattern (more suited to Canon and Nikon) it worked to focus in extreme dark which might matter to people with A77 mk II. Thank God It does not appear in your pictures as reported with the Nikon version.Comes with tripod foot, a regular case and a protection for the hot shoe. The hot-shoe seemed solid, well made and I dind't get the impression it was going to fall.... but its my first flash for Sony's new hot shoe. The old show tih HVl-F58M might be safer but this one feels secure too.Still waiting for my Godox X1T-S wireless transmitter to test wireless radio TTL and trigger it with AD-180 strobe. The menu system looked confused at first but now it doesn't anymore. I alothink its very well laid out the buttons don't have signs because they change with the function in the menus. It has a wheel to turn on exposure compensation and much more important an hard/switch turn off turn on button for fast moments when you need shilhouttes in weddings and the next second you need again fill (cake cutting, for example). It has built in port for external pack and port for Godox receptors and USb upgrades.. which I didn't made yet.It has TTL groups and ability to control Sony flashes (onyl with optical wireless, unless you have a compatible receptor from Godox for your flash) but didn't test it.When ou know the price and build quality you can feel youprobably are being extorted with many of the more expensive flashes.Buil as good as Metz AF-52 Af-2 and it looked more reliable in exposure and it has a on/off switch and hard buttons instead of the not easy to work touch buttons.Only thing its missing is a video light like Sony HVL-F60m.Buy it with confidenceAuto zoom of the head seemed fine and when it is in bounce mode its at 35mm (the HVl-f58 looked like it was in 28mm).

Almost the perfect flash for Sony users
Note: The maker supplied a review sample for evaluation, the opinion of the product is my own personal viewFor review I looked at the TT685S model (multi interface shoe)Looking at the flash the first positive experience is the build quality which feels every bit a match for a higher priced OEM unit with dense plastics and a solid feel (even the battery door feel very strong). Only area it doesn’t quite match is the lack of weather sealing, not something I would expect on a flash for this price. The bundled kit is quite comprehensive including a carry case with light padding (not belt loop though), a flash stand with brass screw thread, cleaning cloth, a Velcro strap with an adhesive add on to attach to the flash, coloured gels with a clear plastic sleeve (this can be strapped to the flash via the Velcro thus it’s always available), and an elasticated diffuser to fit over the flash head. It’s a decent bundle and more than you would expect for the price (the gels are more a bonus item but nice to have them)I can see the main appeal for this is building up a radio based wireless flash system, the flash can act as a master and slave, ie the radio function is built in. There is a separate X1S TTL Wireless Flash Trigger available on it’s own or as a bundle. I didn’t have one to test at the time though I will update the review if I get one to try. Another important area is this is a fully dedicated flash with TTL exposure control, HSS (high speed sync) is here too. You can use the flash as you would a Sony one and the exposures are bang on target most of the time (as close to the Sony flashes as I have seen from a third party maker), though I would agree the colour balance is slightly cooler it’s not something I find a problem a minor difference.Other features include manual flash (with 1/3 stop increments from 1/1 down to 1/128 power), strobe flash with settings for frequency and pulse duration. The flash has a micro USB port for firmware updates (which are free), a power port for an external power pack and a 2.5mm pc sync port. There are two potential weaker areas, firstly the manual is rather “loosely” translated making it harder work than it should be to read. Fortunately the flash is fairly easy to operate with the main mode button switching between TTL, Multi and Manual modes. You can also set flash exposure compensation on the flash (remember this is in combination with the camera setting both influence each other). Master radio control shows green on the backlit LCD, red for slave pay attention to the radio tower symbol. Other functions are indicated via the lettering on the LCD making it quite simple to use. It’s a large display with good viewing angles and a pleasure to use.Second weak point is the optical modes well I tried it out and it’s not working using the Sony wireless flash system. Emailing the maker they say it’s not a working function. I am puzzled why the manual and flash show these modes perhaps they will add it later on. In short you can’t use it as an optical slave or master (TTL) flash... during testing using Sony and Metz flashes it’s not working. I would prefer to have this blanked out and no settings (maybe another model supports it or will do later on no idea). The good news is that in other areas the flash is a winner. You get radio wireless flash with HSS, and built into each flash so you avoid the cost of buying radio remote units for each one That alone could be a sizeable cost saving as radio flashes are fairly pricey...well the ones that support off camera flash and HSS (ie flash sync at all speeds up to 1/8000 second). Cheap ones are manual, mid range are TTL with the top priced units supporting HSS. If you are looking for a system flash to buy that has radio and TTL, works on the camera with full functionality then this is a very strong offering.Notes:- Support extends from E mount to A mount cameras. I tested this on a number of SLT models and it works just fine. If you are using the older Minolta inverted hot shoe you can use the adapter to convert the shoe to the multi interface one (works without issue)- The AF assist light will only work with A mount cameras, ILC E mount models are not designed to work with this (not a flash problem it’s just the AF system is completely different on the sensor)- For high speed sync you should disable the electronic first curtain shutter in “some” situations such as indoors in dim light. Due to the sensor readout there will be lines on the images (a banding effect) above around 1500/s shutter speed. Again not a flash problem all my other flashes do this it’s due to the electronic first curtain. I’ve yet to see an issue outside for fill flash over many hundreds of shots, just be aware that using the mechanical shutter is advised indoors “if” you are using very high shutter speeds (which isn’t a likely scenario)- The flash does not support TTL optical slave or master modes (despite the manual stating this). S1/S2 modes are available though in the manual mode you will see the option on the screen for this, allowing you to use the flash as a slave with other different brands or the on camera flash (S1 fires when a flash signal is received, S2 ignores the first flash ie pre flash suppression. If you are using flashes in manual mode pick S1 so they all fire at the same time. Curiously HSS was available too as a setting in manual which is unexpected (some third party units like Metz have this some don’t)- Flash didn’t work with on an older Konica Minolta 5D digital SLR, at the moment I don’t have any Sony DSLR’s to test with it (most flashes do work with the DSLR bodies)Final thoughts:Overall I was quite impressed with the flash, full 180 degree swivel each side (no locking mechanism it’s fairly stiff) it can also be pointed down slightly; pull out white card and diffuser, a clear AF assist beam for SLT users, and it has quite fast re-cycle times of under 3 seconds with plenty of power. I didn’t have any overheating issues in testing, and you probably won’t unless you fire off lot of high power flashes over an extended period of time. I would prefer if the maker supported TTL optical off camera modes because this would allow the flash to integrate with other Sony or third party models, but the inclusion of S1/S2 modes does save the day here. If they added that then the need to even consider a Sony branded flash would evaporate quite quickly – for the current price of a single HVL-F60M flash you can buy three of these and the controller for a similar cost to one Sony top end flash. Minor points aside the flash offers excellent value for money and performance. Recommended 8.8/10

I use them with the X1Ts for my Sony A7Rii Great for off-camera work at weddings
I have 4 of these now.I use them with the X1Ts for my Sony A7RiiGreat for off-camera work at weddings.I'm not too stressed about them being damaged as the cost to replace is so low.
