Superwinches are garbage.
OK. I'm hot. Sweaty, dusty and pizzd off...AGAIN..with Superwinch. This is the third Superwinch I've owned. Quick about me moment. 40 years as an exploration geologist getting every brand and model of 4x4 stuck as just a part of the job. I swear by Warn winches. My Excursion had a 1980s Warn 8000 that pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled. It burned alternators and wiring harnesses but always got me out. The clutch finally exploded and I replaced it with an 8500 Superwinch that burned out on the first pull. And the truck was not stuck but didn't have traction to get up a hill. Easy pull. Then I put a 4500 Superwinch on my Suzuki Grand Vitara. It needed a block for every pull. I started using my portable 4000 Warn and it never needed a block. So now...I'm stupid and bought this 4000 Superwinch portable. Glutton for a whipping I guess. I used it for the first time 2 hours ago on a Suzuki for lack of traction on a sandy hill. I'm so pizzd off I went straight to the keyboard...after the beer fridge. It pulled fine. But on putting it away, the power plug broke while unplugging the controller. And this even with having applying lithium grease on the plug right out of the box to avoid the strain of pulling the plug out. Once back in the shop, the plug's plastic was so brittle, it crumbled in my fingers. It's like its a piece that is 20 years old and left in the sun. Then, just with handling on the bench while McGivering a fix for the plug (to return it would be $100 in shipping), the hinges on the cheap tool box broke. So...a clothes hanger wire McGiver fix. Then one of the cheap plastic clasps on the lid broke.Quality is not there. This is a great idea poorly executed. My old Warn portable is heavy as sin but solid and reliable. This toy is housed in a $5 plastic Chinese tool box and put together with cheap components.Buy this winch because it's cheap and leave it in the back of the family SUV for the 1 or 2 times in your life you might need it...sort of like tire chains in Vancouver. But don't expect this thing to hold together for multiple pulls over it's lifespan.Do not pay full price. It's not worth it. At $280, you can swear at it all you want. At the nearly $500 retail, you'd need to jump off a bridge.I'm now looking for a winch bumper and a Warn 6000.

Good concept and a great deal
First off I have not used it yet and this is a reflection that this was purchased for “what if” circumstances when I go off roading in the truck or get the tractor stuck again.I originally purchased a 2000lb synthetic rope ATV winch for 100 cad but I had to figure out how to mount etc on my Kubota. While looking for options this unit pop up on sale for 280CAD which would also allow it to be taken on my truck as well.Oddly the wire cable version was on a great deal and the synthetic rope version was not probably because of availability). It was much cheaper to buy this version and change out the wire. That is what I did. I purchased the excellent Ranger synthetic winch rope for 27cad, an extension for 35cad by QIQU and a 15cad soft shackle on Amazon. The conversion to rope was simple as the instructions are actually in the manual I just had to make sure there were no burrs and as it was new this was very minimal. This is basically a plastic tool box with a large mounting plate and 4000lb winch attached. If you had the material and tools you could replicate this (a guy on YouTube did just that) but for this price I doubt that I could. The set up is quite well thought out, but a metal tool box and readily available power cable extension would make it better IMO. There is also very little info on which 2x2 receiver bar could be added so I can just install it in a hitch mount when needed. This set up will work for what I want to do but the power cable is too short to have the winch at the rear of the truck without an extension.

Great winch at a great price
Pulls dead sleds on to a sled deck without a complaint. Loads cars on to a trailer like the car isn’t even there. Easily outpulls the winch on my grizzly. Like everyone else, I feel the plastic box will be the failure point. Battery leads are ridiculously short. I guess to stay at the price point you can’t have everything.

Winch works Good BUT......
The winch is handy and worked like advertised. But quick connectors are cheap and fragile, the connecter on the winch side broke first use. as I did not use winch right away it has already passed return date. Good Idea but poor quality connectors.
