Just what I was looking for
This was my third photo backpack. The first, from a well-known manufacturer, was designed such that I had difficulty removing lenses from certain pockets and I returned it. The second, less well-known but with high ratings, had a zipper failure the second time I used it. I returned that one also. The Dakine seems the highest quality of the three. As a qualifier for my storage comments, I carry my primary camera/lens combo in a smaller case, worn in front for readier access. I use the Dakine for accessories, and it has plenty of storage for my purposes. The bag currently holds a fisheye lens, a telephoto zoom lens, a spare wide angle-telephoto zoom lens, a series of filters and adaptor rings, a lens cleaning kit and dust blower, my remote shutter release, my old point and shoot digital camera, a first aid kit, and I've fit a water bottle and trail bar into other pockets. Even then I haven't used all the pockets. I have not tried to carry a tripod, although straps are available to do so. I don't know whether a laptop would fit into the bag, but one compartment could easily hold a tablet. I have worn the Dakine on a few hikes, none over five miles, and sometimes forget I am wearing it.

Mission accomplished.
On a recent trip, my swiss army backpack's zipper broke. It had been my go-to laptop/travel bag because it had tons of pockets and could be used as a day pack. After searching for a backpack that could do double duty for carrying a laptop - an older Macbook Air - and some photo gear, I came across the Dakine Mission Photo. It perfectly fit the need! It doesn't fit as much as the swiss army pack, but I like the Dakine better. The Air fits into the front pocket - though you can also store it behind the photo insert. A Phase One DF with 80mm and IQ140 back easily fit into the photo insert. There is room for a mirrorless kit in there too. I really like that you can remove the photo bag and still have a daypack with plenty of room. The storage area in the top of the back is pretty roomy as well. The built-in handle at the top and straps seem plenty strong. Overall, I'm really happy with the purchase.

Great all around pack
I'm very happy with this pack, and I'm a tough customer to please with low tolerance for poor design or construction. This pack is well designed and constructed, it's sturdy, well thought-out, and looks great. Holds plenty of camera gear and other travel necessities (see below). Shoulder straps were very comfortable, chest-strap in perfect place, waist strap is comfortable. Camera compartment is roomy and adequately padded. Camera access in on the front of this one (older model has back access). I recently wore this thing all-day at amusement park, getting on and off rides, taking it on and off, frequently accessing camera. etc. I was able to put my camera (with med-size lens) in the top compartment for quicker access, but at end of excursion put camera back in the main compartment for safe keeping. This is a great pack for hikes, traveling, and other adventures.Recently Traveled with:- Canon T4i (I'm pretty sure it will hold a full-frame body with zoom as there was plenty of extra room)- 18-135mm lens- 55-250mm lens- 10-24mm Tamron with hood- 50mm 1.8- Canon 320 Speedlight FlashiPad 3 with cover and padded slim caseCleaning gearEyeglass caseSigg Aluminum Water Bottle, largeSnacksStill room for morePros:Shoulder straps are well made, padded, and placedTop handle nicely integrated (will never tear out) with shoulder strap (somebody was thinking)Room for extra gear, lunch, etc.. in top compartmentRemovable camera compartmentSide water bottle holder - unzip flap and mesh bag with top strap tightenerA few things would make this pack a 5 star:- A couple extra slots or compartments inside the removable camera gear case (if you take that sucker out, make sure you have something for your cleaning supplies if those are in the other front compartment that you're leaving behind)- Wish the dividers in camera compartment were more configurable and flexible.- Two-three more short dividers would be useful so i could use the extra space for other things, to have safe division between the camera and say the lens hood.- Not sure why Dakine changed the access to the camera pack to the front, I really liked that back access to gear while leaving the pack on.- the slot for iPad/Tablet or ultra-thin 11-12inch laptop could hold something even bigger if Dakine designed the tongue holder for the camera gear lid. Two decent velcro points would do it instead of the horizontal strap which is bound by stitching on the opposite side of the front compartment where your Tablet/ultra-book goes. This would free up that space making the front slot wider. Anywho - if you had to you could still finagle a 15-17" lappy on top of the closed camera pack compartment, it might just make the very front compartment tighter.- Wish it came with shoulder strap for the removable compartment (the hooks are there - you just need your own strap)

The quality of the stitching isn't that great, If doesn't farewell on overpacking
The quality of the stitching isn't that great, If doesn't farewell on overpacking. Which makes sense, but I have had to superglue some seams together... It still is a great pack. But I would recommend reinforcing it with superglue.

I love this backpack!
This backpack is great! It has a nice sized camera case strapped to the inside with Velcro inserts. This allows you to customize the bag to fit all your gear. I am currently keeping 2 camera bodies, 3 lenses in this compartment alone. I could probably fit 1-2 more lenses. Aside from the camera storage it has other great pockets that fit all the gear you need. It fits a laptop but it must be under 13.5 inches to fit. This bag also has a water bottle holder that folds out of a side pocket (very cool). I would recommend this bag to anybody who wants to take photos on the go. It does not look like a camera bag unless you have a tripod hanging off the back, so you don't have to worry about bringing it into bad neighborhoods. This bag has two clips that securely strap it to your body, making it a great bag to bike, skateboard, etc with. This bag has a rain shield that you can deploy at any time, it has already protected my gear from rain. I have had smaller camera bags and they wouldn't hold all my gear so i found myself stuffing them into backpacks. This is the king of camera bags. I will never go back to a sling strap after this. Another great feature of this bag is you can remove the camera compartment and use it as a regular backpack! I got the hood edition and was surprised when the graphic was based on a map of mt. hood. This bag is sick, i highly recommend it!

Great bag
Holds everything I need for my canon. 3 lenses, body with battery pack, chager and all my cables. It always stays packed up. It is a little bit bulky, but very comfortable. Can get a little hot on your back.

Sehr guter, variabler Rucksack
