Yardstick Compass

I am very happy with this item it works well on my steel rulers and standard wooden yard sticks. I tried it on a wooden meter stick and the stick was too thick but it fit all my others.

This is probably the best and simplest tool if you need to draw large circles. It's really easy to use as long as you have a very straight yard stick or wood moulding.Do be careful when purchasing though. Some of these come for use with exacto knives in order to cut out circles and others come with a lead prong for drawing only. A few come that give you both options, this is what I've chosen, but double check before ordering.I do think the price is a bit high, but I haven't been able to find it in art supply stores. I took off a star for price.

When I needed to cut larger circles out of 1/2" and 1/4" medium density fiberboard (MDF), I searched a variety of tool sites for trammel points to assist in drawing accurate 18" diameters. Most were in the $20 to $30 range. This pair of points seemed more reasonably priced, so I took a chance. They do not tighten well on a metal "beam". The knurled caps jump off the threads before the point is sufficiently tight to prevent wandering during use. In addition, the slots in the points are too large to permit tightening on a typical 1" wide metal rule found on most combination squares, because the threads holding the caps do not continue far enough down the slots. The weight of the material (aluminum) used to make these points contributes to the poor quality. I will probably be able to get these to work for a project or two, but will begin looking again for trammel points that will last longer and work better, and will accept the higher cost associated with a well-made tool. Lesson learned (again). UPDATE - after trying for 30 min. to stabilize the points on a variety of beams, I've decided to send them back. The threaded caps are the problem. There is no way to get the points sufficiently tight on a beam to be able to draw an accurate circle.

I was going to make something like this until I saw the price of these. They arrived on time and I am impressed with the quality.
