Great investment if you already own a compatible controller
I've owned the 8bit NES 30 Pro for over a year now, and it was always a great controller, but now that I have this Retro Receiver, it's nearing perfection. The greatest feature of this device is the ability to use it as a Bluetooth receiver for the NES. Some reviews have reported firmware issues, but right out of the packaging, I was easily playing Castlevania III wirelessly with minimal lag. Everything worked exactly as you would expect with the original controller, but with a few enhancements, including the improved form factor of the NES 30 Pro and the addition of turbo buttons. Pairing my controller to the receiver was very easy. Once I was satisfied that it works well on the NES, I decided to see how it would work as a Bluetooth Receiver on my PC, and the results here were also quite satisfying and addressed one of the few problems I had with the NES 30 Pro. I have never managed to get the controller working correctly on my PC other than when plugged into the USB port. My PC would always recognize it as a keyboard. Thankfully, when pairing the controller with the Retro Receiver, it functions as a gamepad, and it even supports X-Input by default. I would have been happy to have had it recognized as a generic gamepad, and the support for X-input puts it over the top. Besides the NES30 Pro, I also tested the Wiimote and the DS4, and every feature that I have mentioned seems to be true of them as well. and I really think that is probably the tip of the iceberg. Even if you don't have an NES, this might be worth checking out just as an alternative to the X360 controller for Windows, as it makes the experience so easy. No work arounds or USB cables. Simple Bluetooth pairing right out of the packaging translated to a format that most games will support. My only complaints with this receiver are that it seems to only support one device at a time, which is different than what was advertised and that I can't use it on my other retro consoles, but I will definitely be looking into the SNES receiver that they've created, and any any others that may be on the way, as this has exceeded all my expectations. I had to backorder the item, but it ended up shipping before the original expected date, and it was well worth the wait. I am exceedingly happy with the results thus far.

No wires on the Nes!
I used 2 of these to connect to my nes online controllers which are basically like connecting joy cons to them. You will need to update the firmware it was easy to do once I looked it up on a YouTube video. Again it will not connect to joy cons out of the box. Once I got them going they worked perfectly no noticeable lag. I have a feeling I’m going to only play my nes with Wireless controllers from now on, especially since they feel just like the actual nes controllers so glad the adapters allow me to use them very authentic. Update I didn’t like to have to update this review but these definitely have issues when using 2 of them in a two player game was playing tmnt 2 and kept losing good signal for player two and less often player one even. In one player mode I have played for a significant amount of time and I confirm there are no issues whatsoever but in two player mode at this time unless there is another update on the firmware there are serious issues you need to use wired controller for player two at this time if you want to play a two player game two wireless controllers at same time trips it up for some reason. Again for one player games this is an excellent solution but not so much for two player games. Update again: so I forgot for some reason in my various tests that 2 player mode worked just fine when using 8bit do’s own compatible controllers I used 2 snes style 8bit do controllers with no issues in two player at all. So it’s anything other than that which messes it up when using more than 1 it still messed up with switch controller and ps4 controller. I’m learning more about these things every day just wanted to share it. Still an excellent product. Also something else I never mentioned the Wii controllers worked perfectly with this one or two player so if you have any nes controllers from the nes classic plug in they plug into Wii motes and work perfectly on these receivers this is now what I use if I'm not using the 8 bit do non Bluetooth controllers which I got later.

What a great invention that I've waited years to come about!
What's the biggest hangup for older consoles in the modern setup? Well really there are two. Getting a video connection to modern TV's and connecting controllers wirelessly so that no one (including animals) trips over the controller cables potentially hurting themselves or tearing up the video equipment. Well 8BitDo has solved the wireless controller issue brilliantly. I read another reviewer say that the Bluetooth dongle is a ripoff because the 2.4 GHz controller comes with a dongle instead of being sold separately. I mean absolutely no disrespect to that reviewer and if you want the 2.4GHz controller and dongle I'm certain that that combo works well as I have had to purchase that combo for some of the other consoles I own. But 8BitDo has actually done something very smart and very generous. By not linking the Bluetooth dongle with a controller they are actually giving you great freedom and an inexpensive way to get more life out of both the dongle and any controller purchase. You can actually purchase Bluetooth dongles for NES and SNES. And you can then attach to them with the same Bluetooth Controller. For example I purchased the 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ controller and it can connect via Bluetooth to both my NES and SNES, and my Nintendo Switch (great for the NES and SNES retro consoles inside the Switch). The controller connects to more than that, but by making the Bluetooth dongles for both retro consoles I now have the best of both worlds. One controller for both consoles. And it works absolutely great. I recommend you follow the instructions and upgrade the dongles as soon as you get them. The instructions are very clear. You have to hold the pair button down as you attach the USB cable to your computer and make certain the light is green. Otherwise if it flashes blue its trying to pair and won't update. My dongles came with the 1.10 beta still loaded as their firmware. But after a really fast and easy update they plugged in, paired with my controller, and I was playing The Legend of Zelda once again and loving it in a very comfortable chair from across the room. I highly recommend these dongles. In fact I bought a couple more dongles since I have an original NES in two different rooms and now I don't have to shuffle dongles back and forth. Well worth the purchase price.

Works with 8bitdo N30 Switch Controller
The adapter costs almost as much as a complete N30 controller for the original NES, but I already had an N30 for Switch and wanted to see if it would work on the NES. The N30 for Switch was kind of an oddball bluetooth controller, because while it was technically bluetooth, it didn't support the multiple input modes (x-input, d-input, etc) like other 8bitdo bluetooth controllers. Because of this, it was hit and miss with direct bluetooth pairing with a PC and generally required the 8bitdo USB Adapter 2 to function completely and reliably. With the above in mind, I was apprehensive about trying it with this NES bluetooth adapter. But thankfully it works just fine. Not only does it pair quickly, but it restores pairing after powering off and back on. The button mapping for the N30 Switch controller worked out of the box as well (the L/R buttons don't do anything, but I wouldn't expect them to). Overall happy with how it worked out. I saved about $5 going this way, and I got an adapter with some versatility that could prove to be of extra benefit in the future.

These are perfect for using modern controlers on a NES
8Bit is the premier 3rd party controller manufacturer. Nearly everything they make is high quality and has as good performance as OEM controllers. These receivers are no exception. I use them with my HDMI modded top-loader with the Official Wireless Nintendo NES controllers (the ones they sell for the Switch on-line subscribers) and it's perfect. No noticeable input lag and the controllers connect and pair up to these quickly and easily. Will also work great if you want to use PS4/5, Xbox, or Switch controllers on a NES or AV Famicom too (and probably clone consoles).

worked flawlessly with 1 controller
having a vintage video game night with the kids and bought extension cables for the original NES controllers and they didnt work. decided to try one of these. Ordered it right away and it came the next day just in time for game night. Already had a couple 8bitdo controllers for my switch. Have an SN30 pro and an N30 pro. I only bought 1 device because i wasn't sure how or if it would work. Plugged it into the NES and it connected to the controller right away using the sync buttons on the device and controller. Played with it for hours without issue. Was even able to use the joystick to play nintendo games which was nice because everyone is kinda used to that from playing the more modern systems. Other reviews state problems when having 2 of these plugged into the NES system. I may try getting a second one and seeing how it does and updating my review. maye they have update the firmware since then. for now, this review is just for one

Perfect for NES
Absolutely love this device! I can now play my Nintendo with my 8bitdo SN30 controller and no longer have to deal with my children stepping on my cords for fun. No cords, no clutter, peace of mind! I do own the SNES and PS1 versions as well, and they seem to work a little better. This one sometimes will not connect to controller and I have to reset everything. Still, not bad at all.

Vielseitig !
Absolut super. Natürlich funktioniert das ganze am echten NES. Klare Kaufempfehlung !

Highly recommend
I purchased the receiver to hopefully use my Nintendo Wii U pro controller with my old Nes console. When received it was very quick and easy to set up and works perfectly even at a long distance. Highly recommend.

Better Than NES Satellite For Wireless.
Bought This And The NES30 Bluetooth Controller To Use On My Original NES System. After Some Issues With Controller Syncing And Disconnecting, A Firmware Downgrade Solved Those Issues And Now It Works Perfectly. Much Better Than Using The NES Satellite And Doesn't Take 6 D Size Batteries, It's Powered Straight From The NES Port Itself. It Was A Bit Hard To Plug In And Required A Bit Of Pressure To Push It All The Way In To The NES Controller Port, But I Wont Be Removing It Often And Its Very Secure So Its Not A Problem. Very Happy With It, I Can Play Quite Far Away On My Couch With No Lag, Disconnecting Or Missed Button Presses On The NES30 Controller, Plus It Maps The Extra Buttons On The NES30 Controller To Turbo (But Has Been Removed In The Latest Firmware Update). Very Pleased And Will Buy Another For 2 Player Wireless.
