Coghlan's Fire Sticks, Brow

Never go camping, hiking in the back country without a couple of these fires sticks in your kit. Sometimes it is just nice to be able to start a quick campfire without scratching around to find dry kindling. Reliable and have never been let down when starting a fire to warm up or cook. I break a stick up into 4 or so pieces and only use what I need to make a fire. One stick can be used to start many campfires. I also use these with the True plasma lighter. Good combo to utilize in wet windy environments when you need to get a fire started

Was a bit unsure on these at first but having used them for a while they are actually very good when the weather is against you . you only need a third of a stick to get something going when things are a little damp . (they are quite economical) .work well in the little collapsing pocket wood burners if there is no dry stuff to hand . you only need carry a couple for those odd times but they can be very useful .

Very easy to use, sticks break easily with little mess. I love that these are unscented. We can break 1 stick into up to 4 pieces and use 1-2 to start our fires. The thick pieces stay lit for a good amount of time and we have not had any issues starting our fires. I would buy these again as they are cost effective due to the ease of breaking and using a small piece to start a fire.

These are excellent. I've cut mine up into quarters and use 1 of those quarters for when it comes to starting a fire. They take a flame easily (frey them out a bit) and hold it really well. And yes, these are waterproof.

I stink at starting fires with just about every type of fire sparker I've used, and even with matches or a lighter it can take me a few tries to get a camp fire going. Because of that, I see these as a kind of insurance policy guaranteeing I can get the fire going, keep it going until my teepee catches, and then light a fire if I'm ever in an emergency situation. And the cool thing about these is that you don't need to carry the whole pack with you or anything like that. One stick can start several fires if broken up. Pieces can even be used, then pulled out of the fire before they burn down -- rubbed out in the dirt, and then reused for another fire. So one stick could probably get you three three or four days of backpacking. Yes, it's true that there are ways to make this kind of thing. And yes it's true that other things -- such as fine steel wool -- make for good fire starters. But I find magnesium sticks a big pain to scrape and work with. These fire sticks just take a match and they're burning enough to get your tinder going. And I think that's awesome. I've placed 1/3 of a stick in all of my emergency fire-starting kits (along with matches, lighter, fire steel, and various forms of micro-tinder), just as that insurance policy, guaranteeing I'll have flame when I really need it. .................
