Historical note: The infantry was the most numerous type of the army in the Persian army. It consisted of three parts: the guards or bodyguards of the king, the "immortals" and detachments of other peoples and satrapies that were part of the Persian Empire. During the campaign, 2,000 foot bodyguards were constantly near the king. These were the most noble and valiant Persian warriors. Another detachment of selected Persian infantry was called "immortals". Its strength was constant: it numbered 10,000 warriors. If someone from this detachment left due to death or illness, then another warrior from the rest of the army was immediately chosen in his place. Therefore, the number of "immortals" has always remained unchanged. Many Persian infantrymen carried huge, but light, shields woven from twigs. They served as a reliable protection against arrows for the soldiers. A significant part of the Persian infantry was armed with bows. Hiding behind large shields, the archers fired at the enemy, causing him sensitive damage. Set of 42 unpainted figures.
