Fantastic CarPlay unit for E70 with solid manufacturer support
For anyone considering installing a CarPlay/Android Auto unit in your E70, I just decided this week to upgrade mine with this unit and I couldn’t be more pleased. Information on these CarPlay/Android Auto units can be spotty so hopefully this review helps. Installation wasn’t awful and I did it in a couple hours. The screen is bright and responsive and at 10.25” it’s well proportioned for the car and looks factory. I use mine for CarPlay and it works perfectly. It’s fully touchscreen and responsive, but also integrates with iDrive so you can use iDrive to navigate CarPlay menus. Sound quality is important to me and I was worried about a loss in sound. This unit supports wireless CarPlay and if you have BT audio, sound is delivered via the factory Bluetooth connection and there’s no loss in audio quality. Calls work fine. Steering wheel controls all work and the voice control button now maps to Siri. You can toggle between the new interface and factory interface just by pressing and holding the menu button on iDrive. Factory parking cameras still work fine and automaticaly show when in Reverse or you press the parking camera button. It’s a Linux based unit so boot time is quick, like 5 seconds. The manufacturer, PEMP, is super responsive to questions and actually will support you if you have install issues. The only minor thing I don’t like about it is when you press the heated or cooled seats button it doesn’t automatically show seat climate controls on the screen. But, for all the other functionality, I can easily get over that. I’m not at all affiliated with this company, but thought I’d share in case anybody else is considering an upgrade. At the price I paid this is a tremendous value to make a great car more modern. Also - pro tip, if you install the unit and the CIC interface looks glitchy/fuzzy, you likely just need to change the resolution settings. I thought I had a loose connection at first but changing the settings resolved my issue.

Amazing easy project with incredible advantages
This fits perfectly in my 2011 X5 Diesel the most amazing upgrade! It integrates with multiple things like it shows when a door is open or ajar, maps are on the screen in front of you, seamless integration with the CarPlay and way cheaper than going to a dealer for the update. I use Amazon music and it displays song and album art so looks cool. I still have control from my console switch and Siri is fully integrated so it does speech commands. And all the steering wheel functions work perfectly! Has a great equalizer to customize the sound which is amazing now. My advice is get this if you have a BMW with a standard CarPlay that probably lost the connection when you did an update on your phone. It was a very easy install. They even supplied the install plastic pry tool. At first, I was a little worried but once I got into it, followed the instructions look on YouTube. There’s a young guy with his instructions on how to do it CS studios and others, I followed what he did. It took me about 40 minutes and it was in place I will say this much make sure you put the USB cable on cause you can even put your own customized logo on it Not difficult at all! If you have a BMW that has lost the CarPlay for your Apple phone because of the iOS update don’t waste any time purchase this. I got it on sale during prime days and I am very happy. You don’t have to pay the crazy dealer update price just get this and it is such a great advancement for our BMWs.

Audio quality is awful
I had high hopes for this unit. Looks great, install is easy but I have tried everything I know to try and the audio is just plain awful. If this issue was addressed it would be a good unit. I'm not at all an audio snob but anything over a low to medium volume it becomes really fuzzy and the lows are bad.

Best mod I’ve done in years. Highly recommend
For starters. This was installed on a 2012 bmw x5 with the hifi package. This was COMPLETELY plug and play via Bluetooth, not the aux. the instructions aren’t very clear, they seem old. As some of the plugs/parts aren’t included or even on the car. But they helped me disassemble the car. Space was tight, but everything fit perfectly. I turned the car on, and was amazed. Everything works! Sounds fantastic, looks incredible. I am beyond happy with my purchase. This should be a day one mod for any e70 owner! I’d also like to add, I am not tech savvy at all and this was quite simple. It even comes with a plastic pry tool.

Good but could be better (sound)
Nice unit overall, very nice to be able to add a high definition display and AppleCar play to an older BMW. Fit is perfect and install is really easy and they include instructions. My only gripe is the sound quality isn’t the best. My BMW X5 doesn’t have Bluetooth stock and I had to use the cars aux input for the CarPlay to have sound. It just doesn’t sound the best but I can live with it. I’d recommend just know what you’re getting into and what to expect.

Great upgrade from OEM unit
Really impressed with how well this unit works - the functionality, speed, and display are all excellent. FYI the instructions provided & in the video online skip several crucial steps (such as wiring the USB & auxiliary cable) so make sure to find other videos that show that! Their troubleshooting video will solve all the weird visual bugs once you get it booted up, it’s on their same YouTube channel. Some of you probably already have Bluetooth issues resulting from a faulty commbox that you’re about to discover or are already aware of - this will prevent the native Bluetooth feature from working properly unless you wire an aux into the unit! Once you wire an aux in; both the Bluetooth & wired connection will work fine. There’s also a handful of random connections and wires that just don’t plug into anything at all. I imagine these are for NAV and other trim specific tech options, but something to be aware of when doing the install. Overall, there are some weird caviats with the setup and install, but it’s a massive upgrade from the original unit & very good quality for not being a major name brand. Great value, very impressed.
