Bugs Bunny's Howl-Oween Special

Great Family Fun! A Blast from the Past!!!
When I was a kid, the Big Three networks would routinely mark each holiday with made-for-TV specials, just for kids. These would be broadcast in prime time and would serve to stoke children up about whatever holiday was right around the corner. This Bugs Bunny special is one such relic from this place in time and holds up really well today. I have this special on VHS and am glad to see it finally being released on DVD. As the back of the DVD states (zoom in on it above), the special combines clips from classic cartoons with newer animation to tell a cohesive story. I find it a lot of fun and watch my battered VHS every year and look forward to replacing it with this DVD. If you buy this DVD, I hope that you will enjoy the nostalgia as you watch Bugs and Friends match wits with Witch Hazel and her company of ghouls and goblins. I highly recommend this DVD to both adults and children.

Bug's Not So Scary Halloween
Bonus feature is the famous Hair Raising Hare. That's almost good enough alone. The rest is a montage of creepiest scenes in Bugs Bunny Looney Tunes collection including the witch, Sylvester scary cat, and Bugs Bunny Transylvania sequence.Anyone expecting a full cartoon episode playing one after the other will be disappointed.Every sequence is tied together for one length feature.

Good but too short
I'm a HUGE Bugs Bunny fan and wanted to pass on the tradition of Bugs Bunny on Halloween to my kids. I hate that ABC television no longer shows Bugs every year. I would have preferred that this was longer than a half-hour DVD (which is why I didn't give it a 5 star rating). However, the clips chosen were clever and my 3 and 5 year old laugh at the content just as much as I did when I was their age. Hoping Warner Brothers comes up with full un-cut versions in the future so the adults can reminisce back to life in the 1970's.

You can easily tell the old from the new but it is ...
Very cute. We had it on VHS and wanted to get it for our DVD player while we could. It actually has old parts of cartoons with new parts inserted. You can easily tell the old from the new but it is still entertaining.

Nostalgic fun, nothing more
I'm a huge fan of both Halloween and Looney Tunes, so I was intially very excited about this release. Using new animated footage to bridge clips from classic-era 'toons was a common practice after the studio ceased production on their theatrical shorts in the late 1960's. As a child in the seventies (I was 10 when this special aired), I'm sure I didn't give much thought to whether the old and the new mixed well. As an adult, however, it is easy to see the sometimes jarring differences. Most of the new scenes include Bugs and Witch Hazel, and the artwork for both just doesn't match the old clips. Even the voices are a little off, which is especially frustrating since both Mel Blanc and June Foray reprised their roles from the original cartoons. Will kids notice the discrepancies? Maybe not, unless they've been shown the old cartoons over and over. But it is worth noting that BUGS BUNNY'S HOWL-OWEEN SPECIAL is a children's t.v. special, whereas the Golden Age Looney Tunes were theatrical shorts that were NOT necessarily aimed at young viewers. But parents looking for some inoffensive holiday entertainment need not worry; even a potentially eyebrow-raising line like the bunny's politically-incorrect "Aren't they [women] all witches underneath?" has been re-dubbed with some throwaway line about Halloween. The only extra feature here is the uncut version of "Hair-Raising Hare," mispelled as "Hare Raising Hare" on the DVD menu. With the bonus cartoon, the whole things clocks in at just 30 minutes (not 35 as stated on the box).Like I said, I'm a fan. And I'll continue to support future Looney Tunes releases. But this isn't one I'll be viewing over and over.

GREAT!
I remember watching the special when I was younger. My mom even recorded it for me on an old tape. I was very happy that this was on dvd and I just HAD to have it for old time you know.I watched it and I still laugh! It's a great buy and arrived when it was supposed to. Not one complaint.A must see for the younger generations!

It is Bugs Bunny that Monsters Should Fear LOL
The media could not be loaded. This is a nice DVD that Warner Brothers created for fans. It is a wonderful compilation of Bugs Bunny’s encounters with different Halloween Monsters and how he outsmarts them. The kids get a good laugh every time they see this DVD. An interactive game is a nice special feature to keep the kids entertained as well.
