Most authoritative and rich book on Ganesha ever
This book is a treasure trove of information on Ganesha. It is the most authoritative work on Ganesha published in the the West by a great sadguru (guru to gurus.) Yet it is not dense and boring but quite enjoyable. The book is divided into three sections plus the entire Siddhi Vinayaka Puja, which has offerings to the directions and of jewels and weapons. At the end are the 1000 Names and Powers of Ganesha for a longer puja (worship service.)Section I, Philosophy, gives a deep insight into Sanatana Dharma/Hindu understandings.Section II, Mysticism, gives a mystical understanding into the symbolism of the elephant as a divine expression. It also gives a lot of hard to find information on the 32 manifestations of Ganesha. It includes the Ganesha Gita, the Ganesha Kavacham and a number of more esoteric Ganesha mantras. Ganesha is a celestial being of great power. He says, "I am Brahma." and "There are places in the universe that only I can go."Section III, Mythology, gives the stories of Lord Ganesha. The chubby, dancing, fun-loving Ganesha is not the whole story. Ganesha, like the avatars of Vishnu, had 8 great incarnations. In each one, he incarnated to kill a particular demon. The stories are fascinating allegories of the defeat of the demons. Each of the demons symbolizes the faults of humanity, such as greed, lust, pride, and others, including the main one for our time, Kulli Yuga, of overweening ego.I use this book in my own work teaching workshops and highly recommend it.

Giver of Blessings and Remover of Obstacles
This is the most comprehensive explanation of that aspect of God that bestows blessings and removes obstacles. While translating the Sahasranam, Sadguru Sant Keshavadas was in direct communion with Panduranga. I know because I was there. You will not find this translation anywhere else in the world.Janaki -- Dasa to Sant Keshavadas

Good, but could do without the Christian concepts
Although I do like this work, I have to say I am thrown off somewhat from the frequent allusions to Christian concepts. I'm not sure this is because this is written by someone who is trying to appeal to Western minds, or is a student of comparative religion, or has converted to Christianity at some point or has family members who have. Maybe these allusions really help some readers but they stick out like sore thumbs for someone like me. I don't need to see a phrase like "there is no way that you could be so bad as to be damned in hell forever".

Serious about Lord Ganesha, get this book.
An excellent book on the worship and history of Ganesha. The writing is clear and authoritative and comes from the point of view of a worshipper, so he's speaking from the heart as well as the head. This is perfect for someone who wants to take on the worship of Lord Ganapati seriously. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is the editing is clumsy. Quite a few misspellings and dropped words. This book could use a quick going over to clean up these mistakes, but even without, I recommend it highly.
