Works great
This pencil iron is excellent for soldering small components. Very quick to get to temp.

Works great I built my own driver for it
Works great I built my own driver for it. Only downside is the special sorta proprietary connector that made me have to modify a more standard connector to make it fit the special one that weller contracted amphenol to manufacture; that and the price considering its more or less a hall effect sensor and 1/8" audio jack in a anodized aluminum sleeve, the silicone cable is spot on though.

Great Tool
I've been a lifelong user of another brand of soldering tools but after using this pencil, the WD-1 power station, and the WMRT tweezers, I'm a Weller convert. This pencil is superb - heats to temp in seconds, maintains temperature even when soldering components to large ground planes, and has a magnetic switch in its handle that turns off the heat when placed in a suitable stand, in order to conserve tip life. The Weller stand is very expensive, but if you have access to a 3D printer you can print one for pennies. Amazon won't let me post a link here, but if you go to Thingiverse and search for "WMRP" or just look in my designs you should find the stand.

Amazing Tool
This is really an amazing tool. I used to dread working on SMD components with my large soldering iron. Not anymore with the WMRP. It heats up in about five seconds and is as easy to operate as a ballpoint pen. Because of the short grip to tip distance and light-weight construction you can confidently rework SMD boards with ease.Note that the heating element is contained within the removable tip making it more expensive to replace, but then this isn't an iron for all-day production use--it's for occasional rework. That said I read heavy users get about six months from a tip before they have to replace it. I've had mine for a couple of years and it's just starting to show signs of use.
