The most Deluxe, Deluxe Boxset ever!!
Unbelievable was the 1st word that came to mind when I received this monster of a boxset. It's borderline overwhelming when you open it up to see all of the content inside:2LP Vinyl & CD Remaster of the original album. It's never sounded betterSad, But True Pic Disc (means nothing to me, but cool anyway)1 LP vinyl of their performance at the Freddie Mercury Tribute2 LP vinyl of their historic performance in Moscow, Russia from 19912 CDs of interviews2CDs of riffs & demos1 CD of radio edits & preproduction rehearsals2CDs of rough & alternate mixes6CDs capturing 3 shows from 1991-19936 DVDs of Live Shows, Outtakes & Home video footageThen you get Lithos, Lanyards, Guitar Picks, Copies of James' hand written lyrics and a 120 page hard cover book with tons of pictures and interviews.Good God Almighty!! It will take me a month or more to get through all of this, but I plan on enjoying every moment of it. Thank you Metallica for setting the standard by which all deluxe editions should be measured. I know $240 is a lot to pay for any set, but if you are a big Metallica fan, and The Black Album holds a special place for you, like it does for me, you won't be disappointed. Do not wait until they are sold out everywhere, and it will happen.

Exactly what I had hoped for.
Over-all it really captures a great selection of music from around the Black album period. But more importantly, the majority of the vinyl records in the collection are actually very well done. The only exception to this would be the Sad But True ... 'single'? ... picture disk. Like most picture disks, it does have a worse surface noise than the average. But also, why is there not a better sleeve for this single? All the others I can put on my normal record shelf, but the picture disk comes in a soft plastic sleeve. But really, it is only a minor issue, especially since the main LP is a really good pressing. I wish I could get all the others in this quality (so far my experience with Metallica vinyl records pressed in the last 10 years otherwise is really sub-par).

Disc 18 - Rough Mix...Amazing
Well, really love the entire box set, However the standout for me is the Rough Mix cd.. it was really cool hearing the completed songs (not a demo or a riff) in the mix that was not final. Many of the rough Mix version of the songs, were better than the final version, or perhaps because the mix was different from what we have known for decades. Yes the demos and the rifs were a treat to hear, but the rough mixes really were a very nice touch.Nothing Else Matters with only orchestra and with the orchestra removed were great to hear.Vinyl was good, no issues on the main album, sounded good going through a tube amp. Thought the picture disc was a bit noisy, maybe need some wax removed.Worth the money for this release. A real treat.
