A dark coming-of-age tale where slice-of-life slices back. This is Punpun Onodera’s coming-of-age story. His parents’ marriage is falling apart. His dad goes to jail, and his mom goes to the hospital. He has to live with his loser uncle. He has a crush on a girl who lives in a weird cult. Punpun tries talking with God about his problems, but God is a jerk. Punpun keeps hoping things will get better, but they really, really don’t. Like most kids his age, Punpun is in high school. In fact, he has made it into the best high school in town. He is such a good student. He studies so he doesn’t have to think about his life. Maybe a meteor will crash into Earth and destroy everything. A guy can wish, Punpun… Review: Surreal and emotionally intense — the series hits its stride - Vol. 3 is a strong entry in the series. The coming-of-age themes get heavier and the storytelling becomes more layered. Asano introduces some surreal and spiritually-tinged elements here that really set Punpun apart from other manga I've read. The character of Aiko is developed much more in this volume and the dynamic between her and Punpun is emotionally complex in a realistic way. The artwork is consistently stunning — some of the full page spreads are genuinely beautiful. I will note the themes get pretty intense, but that's the whole point of this series. Excellent physical quality on the book as well. Review: incredible series - Very rarely do I find something that makes me change my entire life trajectory and perception, but this series will affect you in ways you don’t understand at first. It’s a story of a tragic youth and a heartbreaking life that it’s extremely relatable even if you have no experience with such things. Oyasumi PunPun is a must experience story, be warned it is very mature and not suitable for children and will likely not be understood by most minors. This aside it is one of the greatest works of fiction ever made.

This coming of age tale is as brilliant as it is heart breaking
Inio Asano is a genius. This coming of age tale is as brilliant as it is heart breaking. Goodnight Punpun is constantly making me cry and think, and for that I love it I guess. Goodnight Punpun is surreal, extremely surreal, A lot of what is happening is metaphor or symbolism. The main character is shown as a simple stick figure bird, while everyone and everything else are meticulously detailed and drawn. in terms of coming of age stories in manga, this ranks up with the best. If you like this I also suggest reading Sun downer, a bit more adult but also very good. Part three ramps it up a bit from Part one and Two, constantly surprisingly, I love the evolution of the main character throughout this whole series.

Not New
Was expecting the book to come fully wrapped and new, but this was a second hand used book. I am voting 4 stars because there are no flaws and it looks pretty much new.

Depressing but amazing!
I’m totally hooked on this series. It captures the dark side of humanity perfectly; how our egomania can completely destroy us.
