I recently purchased this 1TB hard disk which is light weight. My main reservation is the high cost; I feel the price should be lower for what it offers. As I anticipated, the transfer speeds are quite slow, so it's not ideal for frequent, large transfers. On the positive side, it comes with a generous warranty period, which provides some peace of mind. Crucially, I believe it's safe to store important files on it, which is the primary purpose of a hard drive. Overall, I'd say it's an okay product for bulk storage, provided you're aware of the slower speeds and higher price point.

Compact and durable

Got this one for 12.5k (it might go lower, so wait for sales) for the 5TB one. The package came in not so good cushioning. Be sure to check for nearby Seagate service centres, because if you get a damaged drive, you would have to go to an authorised service centre for replacement. You'll get 4.54TiB of storage because Windows tends to show capacities in Tebibytes(TiB) not Terabytes(TB). So 5TB=4.54TiB. The speeds are fine (check CrystalDiskMark screenshot). The drive does get hot pretty quickly but it hasn't crossed 45C even under full load. Results might vary in summer though. Also, don't panic if your Seek Error and Read Error rates are increasing continuously in SMART values. It doesn't necessarily mean there are errors. Search for a Seagate error calculator online and put the raw values in there. That'll tell you if there are errors or not. As for the physical build quality, it's average. There is some flex in the middle of the drive and the plastic it's made of doesn't seem much better either. There's a small LED light that blinks if the drive is in use. I wish it had more features. The light in my 6 year old Toshiba drive would change colour if the drive is connected in USB2 mode.

Extremely lightweight and cost-effective option for high-capacity portable storage and can also easily fit on any desktop that is cramped for space. Speeds are good and connection is stable via the included USB cable.

Instead, they asked me to take the HDD to a Seagate service center, saying it was no longer their responsibility and had to be handled directly by the manufacturer. # Service Center Hassle Upon searching for Seagate service centers in Karnataka, I found that there was only one service center—located at SP Road, Bangalore. When I visited the center, the experience was terrible: - The support staff had a rude attitude and barely communicated properly. - They asked me to register a complaint on a third-party website instead of addressing the issue directly. - After raising the complaint, they didn't even check the device; they simply collected it and told me I would receive a replacement after a week. When I asked what if the replacement also didn’t work, they confidently assured me that it would. However, when they handed me an acknowledgment slip, I noticed something suspicious—it stated that since I was returning a new device, the replacement would be a refurbished unit, and I had to sign it. With no other option, I signed the document and left. # Refurbished HDD Instead of a New One After a week, I received the replacement—which I assume was a refurbished unit. Fortunately, it worked fine, but the entire process felt like a scam. What I Learned from This Experience 1. Possible Seller Scam – It seems like some sellers might be deliberately shipping defective units, knowing that many customers won't go through the hassle of visiting a service center. 2. Amazon Doesn’t Help – Even for defective items, Amazon refuses to offer returns or replacements, forcing customers to deal directly with the manufacturer. 3. Service Center Issues – Seagate has only one service center in all of Karnataka, and their support process is inconvenient and frustrating. 4. Refurbished Instead of New – Even after paying ₹7,000 for a new HDD, I was forced to accept a refurbished replacement. This experience raises serious concerns about the authenticity of products sold on Amazon and the lack of customer protection in such cases.
