A good WiFi Router and Easy to Setup
Because my old Netgear router got me so much trouble after serving me for several years, I decided to buy a new one. I found this Amplify Alien interesting and so bought one.It was easy to setup, allowing me to give the network a name and a password I like rather than the given ones. In additional to plugging the power and ethernet cables, everything was done with the AMPLIFI app. I guess I did it in less than 5 minutes. Every device except one worked immediately. The one that did not work was my HP JetDrive 2900nw print server. My printer HP Color LaserJet M553d did recognize the WiFi router but failed to assign an IP to JetDrive. Therefore, wireless printing is DEAD. Whether this is because the equipment is too old or something else. HP is perhaps the worst large companies that is incapable of providing a readable and easily understandable manual. Anyway, a new printer with wireless printing is on the way rather than using the odd JetDrive 2900nw.One little incident should be reported here. The router powered off during night time for no obvious reason as no one is using it. I don't know why. However, unlike my other routers such as LinkSys, ORBI and the old Netgear, this Amplify Alien does generate heat. This is my third day using this router. Except for the powering off in the first night, everything is working fine. I hope its quality is as good as my other routers. In summary, if the quality is good, then this is really good WiFi router.

Works great - Brand new as advertised
I already one of these but needed another one to create a mesh network in my home. I purchased it from marla who shipped it fast and it was sealed and packaged brand new as reported. Setting up the unit with the app was a breeze, took less then 6 minutes and it connected to my network and doing its job. Couldn't be happier.

Do not buy if you need 2.4 ghz!!!!
I bought this router and it was easy to setup. In the process of setting it up, I enabled the additional ssid for 2.4 ghz signal. It worked for a matter of mins. And then it all failed on that radio signal. Contacted support and provided the support file to them and said the hardware for the 2.4 ghz radio was bad. Went through the RMA process with them (had to pay for shipping).Received the new one and set it up and went through thr same thing! Reached out to support and said the radio signal was bad again and wanted me to send it back in. I asked if they would pay for the shipping label and expedite it to send back to me (work remote on days) and they said I would have to pay for it. Very unsatisfied with this customer service.Overall, if you only have nees for 5 ghz, it's great. If not, do not buy this and go through the same issues I went through.

Already knew it was just what I needed . . .
I purchased an Alien Router & Mesh combo about three years ago. I was able to place the Mesh unit on the second floor, in the opposite corner of the house, and connect it as a wired back haul because in the early ‘90s I ran Cat5 from my basement utility room to every corner of my house. This worked perfectly until I needed to connect my video security system, backup generator, weather station etc. All outside of the house. One of the limitations of the Alien is that the Router and Mesh unit are bound to each other and you cannot add a second Mesh unit - it can only be expanded by adding additional Alien Routers. So the opportunity to buy this Router was a godsend as the price was $100 lass than buying directly from Ubiquiti. All of my units are hardwired and I have complete coverage over my 1.5 acre homestead - inside and out. Couldn’t be happier!BTW - The Alien is truly Plug-N-Play. I’ve never seen anything easier. In fact, I even called Ubiquiti to make sure there wasn’t something else I needed to do to complete the setup! All you need is your SSID and Password - Alien does the rest.

Disappointed
Worked for an hour, would no longer populate the network name and when I was able to connect to it the signal was terrible. Tried factory reseting a few times but that did not help at all. Very disappointed in the product. Not sure if I just got a defective one or it's just that bad.

Router is good but Amplifi's product support is bad news
The router is nice but the company is bad news. I ordered 3. But 1 of them had some oily explosion inside the shipping package. Like a battery or capacitor leaked. Is it safe to turn on!?!? So I ask for an RMS and they want me to pay the $15 PLUS insurance—for their mistake. I had to reach out a second time (after 3 or 4 emails back and forth) to finally get a return shipment with a paid label. Amplifi should support customers better than that (for a high end router).Beyond that, the router is excellent, easy to set up. This would have been a 5 star review, but a 33% DOA rate from my end and a terrible RMA process knock it down a star.

Sweet
The media could not be loaded. Router arrived promptly and package was in great condition. Pulled off the sleeved packaging to uncover a very nice hinge style box (ufo door opening) which I will have to repurpose because it is pretty cool. They nailed the presentation and stoked about setting it up from the get go. It was super easy to unpack, set up, and get operational. The lighting and interface is neat and displays a lot of great info about the network status, performance and devices that are connected. I think I saw a ghost in the matrix while staring at it. The mobile app seems pretty simple to use. I replaced some mesh WiFi network nodes that had really crappy coverage for me and this thing beats their range significantly. The speeds on my LAN connections are about 4% faster and my devices connected via WiFi are 300%... No more spinning websites and videos trying to play around the house. Super happy with every aspect of purchase and product, packaging etc.
