Yes, that's what I use it for. Same stuff! Save yourself $100's.diatomaceous earth DOES NOT expand like little sponges. It is a silica skeleton of a tiny animal. The tiny pores in the exoskelton work as very fine filter material.Diatomaceous earth can only mechanically filter your water(polish) It does nothing for organics such as ammonia, nitrite or nitrates.

You do not want to use this as sand this is for filtering purposes only ,use pool filter sand or lowes has a commercial fine sand its like sugar i use it for my geophagus tanks its 6 dollars for a 50 lb bag its really nice stuff or sakrete has a pool filter sand that is nice 15 dollars a bag ,ace hardware has a pool filter sand thats grey very nice ive used them all and there safe for corys

No, this is not food grade DE.  This is for filtration use.Food grade diatomaceous earth contains < 2% crystalline silica, whereas swimming pool diatomaceous earth is chemically altered to contain very high quantities of crystalline silica to improve its filtration properties. Although studies do not confirm that eating high-crystalline silica is harmful, breathing it in is significantly more harmful.
