holy hefty install, batman!
there are comprehensive reviews for both games elsewhere, so i will limit this review to this edition and its contents. but that being said, both bioshock 1 and 2 are truly amazing gaming experiences. this edition is a stellar value, no question. some of the dlc was previously available, some was not, but one thing that is totally new is the addition of STICKERS! first off, all dlc is ON DISC. this is great news for those folks who are not fans of psn codes. here is what is included: bioshock1 plasmid pack challenge room pack bonus museum level bioshock2 sinclair solutions tester rapture metro kill 'em kindly the protector trials minerva's den 3 stickers from the upcoming bioshock infinite the stickers are a little lackluster, to be honest. i was really hoping for some of the vigors (murder of crows, anyone?) or even the beautiful concept art, however what we get are three stickers (about three inches by four inches) showcasing the following: monument island the first lady's aerodome hall of heroes memorial giftshop the real silliness involved in this set is the amount of time it takes to install. if both games and all dlc's can fit on one disk, i mistakenly thought install for everything would be a one-step snap. WRONG. just about every item must be installed separately, with some things taking an inordinate amount of time to do so. bioshock one took about twenty minutes (not a huge deal), however bioshock two took nearly an HOUR. this is easily the longest install i've ever seen...which is odd, because i already owned both games, and neither took so long to originally install. that being said, i recently upgraded to the 500gb ps3, so i know it isn't the system. the box says the game/s require 4997mb of space...however looking at my ps3 i am more than a little confused. bioshock 2 installed to my ps3 game folder, and that game alone states 9343mb. and if bioshock2 installed directly to my hard drive, then why didn't bioshock1? color me confused on this one for sure. all technical installation nonsense aside, i am super pleased to have the new content, and i will certainly be playing through both games again to experience as much as i can. bioshock1 holds the honor as my personal favorite gaming experience of all time. i will update my review after i have seen how all the new dlc plays out. be warned: some of the dlc is multiplayer only. my only experience with the multiplayer aspect was not such a fun experience. i guess i was late to the multiplayer experience and was killed literally seconds after entering the game by other folks. that happened three times in a row before i decided that maybe it wasn't for me. i will probably give it another try in hopes that the online community has gotten less kill happy with the newcomers. you really can't go wrong with this set. i would pay full price for bioshock1 all over again, let alone to get all this new dlc, PLUS the second game and the new dlc available with that. if you are on the fence at all, i'd encourage you to sieze this opportunity.

So glad I went back and purchased this
I played Bioshock 1 when a friend brought it over back in 2011-12. I didn't really get too into it since admittedly, I thought it was pretty creepy (especially at night in an empty apartment). It did leave a great impression on me though and I never forgotten about it. Fast forward to present day and I'm thinking about the series again. Boy am I glad I picked it up now! The storyline, gameplay and graphics still hold up to this day. I'll break down each part in this review. Storyline: I'm going to avoid spoilers and try and condense both stories (1 & 2) in this. First and foremost, I loved Bioshock 1's storyline. The concept at the time was fresh and there's some significant plot twists that really makes you immerse yourself in the game. Bioshock 2? It's decent. It's still pretty good but definitely did not leave a lasting impact like 1. There's some nice little twists in the end but nothing too out of the ordinary. Although I will admit, 2 definitely was fun since you're playing as a Big Daddy. Gameplay: The gameplay on 1 is pretty good but I'm not the biggest fan of the inventory menu. Constantly switching to the right Plasmid and gun can get a little frustrating especially in the heat of battle. I kind of wish that you were allowed to change the order for fast-switching your weapons and Plasmids. This is also true in Bioshock 2, however it's more streamlined and better handled. In Bioshock 2, you have numerous tonic slots/plasmid slots, etc. and can really power your character since you're a Big Daddy. You never get the feeling that you're overpowered though since the enemies provide a good balance for you at all times. I absolutely love the atmosphere and the way the splicers (Adam addicted citizens) interact with each other and the environment. When you leave an area and come back, even if you cleared all the enemies, more will come around, search for food, talk, sing to themselves, etc. It really makes you feel like the city of Rapture is alive and has countless citizens inhabiting it. Graphics: For "older" last-gen games, their graphics hold up pretty well. I'm a little more lenient with graphics because as long as it's clear and looks decent (minimal screen tears, frame drops, etc.), I'm pretty happy. Graphics definitely complement the game and can enhance the experience so it's still a very important factor. Bioshock 1 & 2 don't disappoint in that respect. The graphics are a little dated, there's remastered versions for the PS4 which makes the character models look clearer, sharper and overall better texture detailed but the PS3 version holds up fine. So in closing, I highly recommend this series and I'm probably going to pick up Infinite sometime in the future to finish up everything.

Good price and game. too much to install !
this game is fun and its a great deal. i got it for $20 with free shipping. the game is awesome and everything is cool except the amount of data that get installed on your HDD. almost the whole game is installed on your console and the game itself runs as a random task. what i mean is that the PS3 does not recognize the game as a game but the game is installed on the disc files randomly in there. cheaply. UPDATE. 4/13/13 - I just finished Bioshock 1 and its great. its probably the longest shooter i've ever played. i was going quickly through it without exploring the whole map and doing the extra objectives and it took me at least 25 hours. though some of you might say. "what?! 25 hours. too short." well. if you compared it to your typical RPG games it is short. but compared to shooters. this game is just at least double the average Shooter games. probably like 3 times the length of COD campaign.(Cod takes no more than 8 hours). i definitely recommend this game. but the game is so much full in content and a really interesting story. this game starts a little bit hard at the begining. i died twice in the first map and never died after that. EVER. so don't think its hard. its very easy.. i give Bioshock 1 Graphics B+ Story A Content A+ Controls A+ Fun A+ Update 3/17/2013 I am more than half throught Bioshock 2 and i am a bit dissappointed. if you asked me the 2nd was 90% similar to Bioshock 1. at some point, i thought that both games were made to be Bioshock 1 and they just tweaked one a bit so it looks like a new game. the environment is different but still similar in about 30%. but the story makes no sense. its like doing the same thing all over again. i give Bioshock 2 Graphics A Story C Content B Controls B Fun A+

Feels Like You're Stealing
Okay, maybe not. But paying $20 for a package deal and getting $40 worth of bonus DLC content should be a no brainer, right? Before I bought this I had played maybe an hour of the first Bioshock. It wasn't until the PSN offered Bioshock Infinite for free that I decided to buy this and muscle through it, so I wouldn't lose any of the story. The first Bioshock was good, but stood on pretty rocky ground. Nothing like it had been done before. Magic and guns in the same FPS? Combat was a little clunky. You could never use your plasmids AND your guns at the same time. Switching back and forth in hectic moments wasn't the easiest feat. Hacking was a chore. I found myself just buying out safes in the late parts of the game simply because money was so easy to come by and I couldn't beat those fast flowing machines. But the story was great with some late-game twists and it was ultimately worth my time. There was only one big choice here that affected endings: save Little Sisters or harvest them. Bioshock 2 was better, improving on an already solid experience by tuning up the gameplay and speeding up combat a little, as well as adding new baddies to test your mettle against. And what's more, you have choices! Do you kill this old lady for all her insults, or do you spare her to show her you don't have hard feelings? Do you take revenge on the guy who betrayed you and your daughter, or are you big enough to let him live? You start out as a Big Daddy, one of the original models, a little smaller than the Bouncer. This time hunking brute splicers and Big Sisters stand in your way, varying the combat enough to keep it from going stale. The story, unlike the other Bioshock games, never veered from its course from the start: You are a Big Daddy separated from his Little Sister. She is "cured" and grows up, but her link to you is never fully severed. After ten years, you tear through the broken city of Rapture to reunite with her. The Ultimate Rapture Edition of Bioshock made for a great weekend, and while I was disappointed that almost none of my newly aquired knowledge of Bioshock helped me in Columbia, it was still a fun experience.
