Good product, bad instructions
I use this switch to connect a mechanical keyboard to both a custom PC tower running Windows 10 and a 2020 Mac Mini, and neither machine has any difficulty in recognizing the keyboard inputs. I'm grateful this small unit has a hot key function, which seems to be a rarity amongst the other switches sold on Amazon. Without a doubt I know I'd get tired of using a physical button to switch ports, especially because I tend to run both machines simultaneously, so a hot key function was a must. That being said, the small sheet of instructions that came with this switch explicitly stated that the base hot key command for switching between the two ports uses the right 'ctrl' key, which certainly wasn't the case for me. It took some frustration, but I eventually guessed that it was my 'fn' key instead of 'ctrl' that was used for swapping ports. This possibility could definitely have been included as a single sentence in the instructions, saving me the guesswork and inclination to think that maybe I had gotten a flawed unit.Build-wise, this unit is just a plastic box, but I am mounting it out of sight so durability shouldn't be a factor in its success and lifetime. I typically shy away from products with large amounts of "Vine Free Product" reviews, but I took a gamble on purchasing this - again because it actually had hot key functionality - and thankfully it fulfills its basic purpose well. I will certainly update this review if things go awry, but hopefully they won't.[Same day edit]: I noticed that the provided USB cable plugged into the Mac Mini interferes with the Logitech universal receiver plugged into the adjacent USB slot in that the mouse freezes very frequently. Unplugging the USB cable fixed it, as did swapping the receiver and USB cable into the other's ports, so I'll just go with that until it (ever) ceases to work.[Another edit]: I decided to just simplify things and use a USB passthrough from the Mini into one of the Dell monitors to which it's connected. Now, the switch's usb and the mouse receiver both register AND are physically more distant. I haven't had any problems now. Also, I switched the hotkey function to utilize scroll lock instead, and for some reason it registers much more consistently than 'fn' did, so I'll also stick with that.

Can only use with hotkey disabled. UPDATE: it gets worse.
Wanted to switch between laptop and computer. Just a normal gaming mouse and mechanical keyboard. Bought this one for the keyboard hotkey.Neither device worked. In the manual, it says that if your devices aren’t recognized then you have to use with the hotkey switch turned off. I turned it off, and my devices were recognized again.I gave it 2 stars because the physical switch works. But I passed over the competition for the hotkey option.Very frustrating. I’ll probably return it.UPDATE (downgraded to 1 star). Have not got around to returning it, but today my keyboard stopped working completely - including no light on the CapsLock key. Looked into it, and I believe the drivers for this thing are preventing Windows from recognizing my keyboard as anything other than Generic HID device. Checked Device Manager, and there are duplicates of my house and dozens of generic devices showing up with titles such as "USB Input Device," "Generic USB Hub," "USB Composite Device," or "HID Keyboard Device." My mouse shows up twice under the mouse heading as well as the keyboard heading. It's a mess. Now I'm having to uninstall these "devices" with mouse going in and out & no keyboard.TLDR: Do not buy this.

Works without any issues
I am using this for connecting a wired keyboard, wireless mouse and a couple of usb hubs to my two laptops. I am able to share the hardware with two laptops just with one click of button.I am happy with the performance and there is no lag in detection. The box itself is built like a tank and is small enough to disappear behind the monitor. Also I need to mention that it comes with the power cord and I did not have to worry about purchasing power cord separately. Now my laptop setup looks so good compact and complete.I love this USB switch. highly recommended.

Works perfectly fine after replacement with updated firmware
I use this with a Windows 10 PC and a 2019 16-inch MacBook, sharing a Kinesis mechanical keyboard, 2 Logitech mice with their individual receivers (on purpose), and a webcam, all bus-powered. Everything works flawlessly now after getting a replacement from the vendor. The first switch had an issue where after every other or every 3rd switching attempt the mouse and keyboard would act up weirdly, causing ghost inputs. Vendor said it is a firmware issue and sent me a new device - no issues since then. I mainly use the middle mouse button or the button at the switch to switch between the systems.
