Perfect for Dementia/Alzheimers patients
This radio is the real deal. I programmed my Dads stations for Country, Classical and Soft Rock and he loves it. No tuning required on his part. The programming is simple to do and is hidden away from the patient. One small criticism - the volume at the lowest setting is still fairly loud. The volume control should be able to be set to almost 0db. My Dad likes to have music on while sleeping, so we had to place some sound barrier in front of the speakers to muffle the volume level.Otherwise, great product!

Very good product for elderly.
My 100 yr old mom with short term memory loss is able to use it by herself. Possible improvements would be better speakers, the sound is a little distorted at high volume, which hearing impaired elders need. Also, one or two more presets would be nice, especially for memory sticks. Overall a fine product.

Quality product not inexpensive, but worth it in the right situation
Needed for an older family member with significant physical limitations. They love music - and weren't getting to hear it anymore. For that reason alone, this product is a winner! Though, I agree with others, I was a bit shocked at the price and was surprised there aren't ANY other similar devices at a lower price-point. I will say, this is a QUALITY speaker, very clear sound. Though the DAB function adds to the cost - and has no use in the American market. Not all USB sticks will work (fortunately I had a shorter basic SanDisk which works great). The radio can be hit-or-miss based on reception - but setting up hours of commercial free MP3s is really where this shined. In the end- worth the price to provide a VERY simple music player for someone who appreciates it!

Poor quality, broke quickly, good concept
The antenna broke off (and could not be reattached) on the 3rd or 4th time I pulled it out. The antenna broke before I even put this in my family member’s room. Because it broke, only one radio station would come up. The concept of using a flash drive to play the personalized play list is clunky and outdated. It took me forever trying to get the songs to play in the right order (and they never did). It takes two pushes of the button for the playlist to come on (which means that my family member may not actually be able to get it on themselves). The concept of this machine is great, but for this enormous price point I expected something much higher quality, durable, and less antiquated. Needs a lot of work to be the kind of product it says it will be. I would return it and/or get a replacement if I wasn’t past the window. Don’t bother.

No DAB radio in North America, No AM stations, Poor USB Playback
Best news ever, my loved one was able to turn this on and adjust the volume without being afraid of it. That's a huge win, and I'm glad she has it! But this radio does have a lot of downsides.First thing I had to learn was about the radio offerings. "DAB" digital radio seems to be what the world is adopting, but not the United States. OK, so DAB is out. Then I realized it's FM only, no AM. I mean, that was right there in the product description, so I shouldn't be surprised, but when is the last time you bought a radio that had only FM and no AM? So I'm limited to the local FM stations, none of which plays classical music, and my loved one has no interest in news or talk. So I picked a couple of stations, then moved on to setting up the digital music. There is no onboard memory, so you have to supply your own USB stick. To set up the radio or install the USB stick, you pull off the back cover which also conceals the batteries. If you already installed the batteries, then they will probably fall out. Of course all of the older USB sticks that I had are all too large to fit in the space the radio provides for it to go. So I bought a new smaller USB stick that'll fit in the space and has way more storage than will be needed. See next point. There's no advancing to the next song or choosing a set of tracks or playlist within the USB memory you've added, unless you take the back off to access those controls, which is not something the dementia patient should be doing. It would be so much improved if there were at least one easy button for them to hit "next song."It seems like the best option I have for access to multiple genres of music is to use different USB sticks. So I will probably have three sticks, then need to instruct the memory care staff on how to change a USB stick by taking the back off, trying not to let the batteries fall out, and changing the stick. The Good-Severe dementia patient with tech phobia is still able to manage ON/OFF and Volume-Can run off of 4 D-cell batteries-Seems to retain settings without batteries installed for brief power loss (I tested for 60 seconds)-USB Memory Stick is enclosed behind the back cover reducing chances of the patient pulling the USB stick outThe Bad-No onboard storage, requires a USB stick-USB Stick must be very small to fit in the space provided-No "next song" button for the listener (there is one available by taking the back cover off)-Presets are set by pressing and holding the button, which for a dementia patient can be easily done by mistake, so it ends up with 2 or 3 buttons all set to the same radio station.-Back cover conceals the USB stick, batteries, and setup buttons. The cover is the fairly standard electronics type where you've got three plastic tabs holding it on, and might be difficult for a dementia patient to open, which is good. But the design could be so much improved if the USB and setup controls were behind a door that is lockable but easier to open without batteries falling out.-Power input & headphone jack right next to each other and the holes look very similar. Some dementia patients' kids are of an age where reading tiny white on white stamped print is hard to do. Or so I've heard.

Needs a repeat function.
The concept works well. It does need a favorite and repeat function.

Does the job perfectly
My 93 yr old mother is in hospital for an extended stay and unable to watch tv. We bought this hoping that she would at least be able to turn it on and listen to some music. She is VERY not tech savvy and with age it has gotten worse. This radio has been great for her. Because of her location there were few choices of stations that played music that she liked. I simply went out, purchased a USB key and loaded it up with music of her generation. The sound quality is surprisingly very good and mom is able to use it with ease. I definitely recommend it. I can't speak of batteries since we are able to plug it into a wall socket. Yes, it is expensive but having my mother be able to use it without a problem makes it worth the price for us. Also, the instruction booklet was very clear to understand for people that might not be very tech savvy.

Great for elderly
This is a great radio for my parents, one of whom is visually impaired and the other has dementia. It was easy for me to set up and really simple for them to use, with no accessible controls for my Dad to fiddle with and untune it. Good sound quality. I’ve bought 2 of them as my parents really liked the first and wanted another for a different room.
