Card Football - Premiere Edition

This eventually won out over 1st & Goal. 1st & Goal is a great football game, but the number of dice needed to play and all the head math after every roll got to be too much of a grind after a while. This game has a smaller tabletop setup and your only dealing with 1 deck of cards. The Player Chips also add a nice enhancement to the game. I also like the choice of teams in a few cities than currently do not have NFL teams (i.e. Charlotte, Las Vegas, Boston, New Jersey, Toronto, Vancouver, etc.). A game plays in 45 minutes to an hour as opposed to 1st & Goal of about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

My gaming group and I very much enjoyed Card Football.The game plays at several levels of complexity.You can play the basic version with any young ten year old sports fan.I found the game useful for teaching the rules of American football to some of my military colleagues from other countries who had heard of American football, but had no idea what the rules were.The components are high quality and are both useful and easy to use.Nicely done!In service,Rich[...]

This is primarily a card management game with the theme of football that features some really nice components. It isn't complicated, nor does it require a thorough knowledge of football to play. Easy to get the hang of play in a few minutes and it takes less than an hour to play out a complete basic game. It also has individual player/team chips for advanced play so fans of football board games can play out make-believe seasons and even establish leagues if so desired.Even non-football fans might enjoy playing this.

First, some disclaimers: 1) I love football 2) I love any game I can get my wife to play 3) My wife likes, but does not love football.I decided to pick up Card Football because of disclaimer #1. That being said, I assumed, like many other games, I would struggle to find someone to play with. I was also a little unsure at the concept of a poker oriented game crossed with football. Well, what a great surprise I found! Not only does this game capture a lot of the strategy and the excitement of football, but it is also a game my wife loves to play!Card Football is built on the foundational rule of high card wins. Each card has the potential to be used for Offense, Defense, or Special Teams. So, when you are on offense, if you play a 6 of hearts and the defense plays a 4 of spades, you get to go 6 yards. Conversely, if you play the 4 and the defense plays the 6, you will be stopped for no yards. This is obviously a simple example and the game has the potential for long bombs, fumbles, interceptions, field goals, safeties, blitzes, etc., but it is all based on this simple concept. All that being said, this game requires a lot of strategy. Managing your high quality cards requires a lot of thought. Should you use them to cause a turnover on defense but then have no power for offense? Should you try for big plays on offense but then leave yourself open when it comes time to play defense?The game comes with very high quality components and almost anything that happens in football is simulated in the game (up to and even including injuries). If you love football (or, even if you are like my wife and only "like" football) I can not recommend this game enough. Great fun!!

You don't have to be a football fan to love playing this game. It combines poker and football and is a lot of fun. Pretty easy to learn and plays pretty quickly too. Overall, really fun.
