Orbeez Light Up Heart

Not fit for a real Christmas gift. I got this as on of my gifts for my 11 year old granddaughter for Christmas and it looked so cheap that I gave it as a White Elephant gag gift and got my granddaughter something else.

ALL my 6 y/o asked to get for Christmas was Orbeez. Period. I was mortified and read all of the reviews of how they get all over the house, are boring, are the same as the plant gels you can find at the dollar store, etc. Now you KNOW when a kid asks for only one thing, it doesn't matter how crappy the reviews are...you're buying it. General instructions are: insert 3 AAA batteries, soak the orbeez, fill the heart, turn it on. Ho hum.Well....first of all, she was happily checking on her Orbeez in anticipation all day while they were soaking (you have to soak them for at least 3-4 hours). These itty, bitty dots that initially are about the size of fleas, grow to 1/4" balls. Instructions had her pick one pack of clear and then 2 other colors (not sure why as it doesn't seem to matter retrospectively, but I followed directions for the first time in my life..well, kinda-I didn't soak them in filtered water, just tap water). When 3 hours had passed, my daughter artfully filled the heart with the orbeez (with some left over) and placed it on the base. She turned on the light and it looked really, really cool!!!! We were all amazed. The light on the base slowly changes colors and it creates a good, mellow, pretty light. Even family that came over later and didn't really know what it was commented on how cool it looked (teenagers and grandparents alike). I didn't drain the orbeez as well as we should've initially and you could see some water in the bottom, so I took the heart out of the base, took off the lid, held a small wire sieve over the top and flipped it right-side up to let the water drain out. I heard mold was an issue, so I rinsed the orbeez a few times with water then once with water/vinegar (5:1), then drained them again before replacing the lid. So far, so good. VERY, VERY pleasantly surprised. Not a waste of money AT ALL, as I had anticipated. As a matter of fact, I'm having her make one for my office and another for grandma. The one she made is sitting in the middle of my dining room table now, just for some low lighting while I'm on the computer. I'm ashamed to admit this, but we all LOVE IT!

I was not sent this item.. I was sent an orbeez peace sign instead. We were disappointed.

I wasn't sure about this product after reading some of the reviews. However, my girls loved soaking the beads and the end product of putting into the heart and using at night has been great! My girls use as a night light at night. It is colorful, not too bright, yet just bright enough to let the different colors come through. I have had the beads in there for quit some time (about 2 months) and not mold yet that I can notice. I really should put a new batch in there, but have been lazy. So, if anyone is like me about getting around to changing things I think this product holds up pretty well. I will say that the heart is a lot smaller than the picture. I had anticipated it being a bit bigger, but it's not a deal breaker.

VERY pretty lit up. My girls use it as a night light. Its super pretty in the dark. The girls absolutely love it. The Orbies last for along time inside the heart without having to dump them out, let them soak and plump up again, and fill the heart back up.. Really love this product and would recommend it to ANYONE who is looking for that perfect gift for a little girl.

My daughter loves this Orbeez light up heart, given to her on her 11th birthday. It was simple to grow the Orbeez and she likes that she can change out the Orbeez when she wants to. The light up feature is a great bonus. She likes all the different color options you can choose from. The light is soothing and perfect for a night light. It makes a cute decoration for a nightstand or dresser.

I bought this for my grand daughter's birthday and she knew all about it, 6 yrs. old, and how to put it together and get it to work. She has been using it for a month now and really likes it. It was all a mystery to me and seemed complicated to Grandma.

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for an 8 year old girl. She already had some Orbeez products, and she was very happy to receive this. Its very cute, but it does require 3 'aaa' batteries (not included).
