Slices almost effortlessly, really!
I have been debating buying a V slicer mandoline for quite some time, but hesitated because I am fairly skilled with a knife and I have a food processor (20 years old) that works well, and a straight blade mandoline (which is probably 30 years old). So far, with my new kitchen toy, I have made sweet potato chips, paper thin. I was really happy with how “almost” effortless it was. With my existing tools, it was challenging to say the least and I rarely got the results I wanted. I also shredded cabbage, (something I can do by hand), but it was so much easier and quicker with the V slicer. I had watched one of my favorite TV chefs (Alton Brown), and he had said a V slicer was the best tool for the job of shredding cabbage, he was absolutely right. It was so much quicker, I am not a fan of store bought cabbage mix, it never tastes fresh and you get so little compared to a whole head of cabbage. I use a lot of cabbage in stir fries as well as coleslaw. I sliced some zucchini paper thin, just to see how thin I could slice, then I made adjustments to the thickness and engaged the julienne blades, I don’t think the are narrow enough to be considered “zoodles”, but the julienne blades would work well for regular fries or shoestring fries, or just julienne veggies for a stir fry or salad. I love all the adjustments, particularly how thin it will slice. I recommend watching the video, to see the julienne blades which are built in. The way it is designed with the julienne blades as a built in feature is genius. The hand grip does a nice job of holding the vegetables when you get down to the last few inches, which is a definite plus considering how sharp the blades are. The metal prongs within the handle do a great job of actually gripping the food. The accessory blades in their own storage box is a bonus, I am not sure I will use them often, but it gives me options. I may very well bring this slicer camping with us since it is an all in one tool that doesn’t require electricity and that doesn’t take up a whole lot of space). The unit itself does most everything I need and folds up close to flat. So far, I absolutely love this V mandoline. Now, I have to go buy more veggies, so I can see what else I can easily slice. This is a very well made and designed product. Thank you.

Slice and Julienne in seconds, and it grates and shreds as well
I have purchased many mandoline slicers in the past, and I know what I like. I have spent significantly more on nicer ones with replaceable blades, more exact slices, etc. But I really needed a good mandoline slicer that does a bit more than slice in one size. I have heard good things about the Mueller V-Pro 5 (as well as other products they make) from other chefs, so I decided to buy this one. I needed the following out of my slicer. - Adjustable slice thickness (this can slice paper thin to a respectable thickness to a bit over 1/3") - Julienne/Alumette/French cut as well as straight slicing Added bonus - Wavy cut (ridges) - Grates - Juliennes in two sizes (there are blades underneath the slicing deck that you can rotate and lock into place) - Case for the blades This one is simply the best in its class, nothing in this price range will come close. It is very sharp, both the 5 insert blades, as well as the deck blades for Julienning tucked into the bottom of the deck. Using the product, I love how it slices the vegetables very thin, especially onions for bagels, lox and cream cheese, or tomatoes for a thin slices in a burger, but the best of all, it can slice it almost paper thin. Great for like slicing cucumbers for sunomono. The Julienne slices can be perfect for stuffing vegetables in a spring roll, or for making various slaws. The grater is fantastic as well. One thing I will also like to note is the blades are very sharp. I would use this tool with caution if you have not used a madoline slicer in the past, and make sure to use the food holder and guard. I have used so many in the past, I am used to it, and I know when to stop, so I haven't used the food holder and guard. This is one of the best kitchen products that I have purchased recently, and I highly recommend this to everyone I know that loves to cook. Makes cooking a lot easier and faster (try julienning 5 kinds of vegetables for a dish), and cleaning this tool is very easy and fast too. Sure, I can julienne and make pretty flower shaped or rose petals out of carrots or make a fish net out of daikon radish just using a knife, but you know, when you want to cook a meal in 30 minutes, nothing beats a great tool. If you are looking to shortcut your cooking time, this tool is must buy for most use cases.

I think I need to learn how to slide the vegetable correctly.
I was looking for something to slice my zucchini for zucchini chips. This does the job. My husband uses it for potatoes for fries. It is pretty simple to use, you just pop in the slicer blade you want to use, prop up the legs or holder(that's what I call it), adjust to the settings you want, cut the vegetable in half, put on your cutting glove and start slicing. So, let's go through this real quick. Popping in the blade you want...easy, pulling the legs/holder up...easy, adjusting the settings...easy, slicing the vegetable - well... not so easy. Maybe I am not doing it correctly, so please bear with me. There is a slicing guard that you can poke into the vegetable and use it to slide across the mandolin, this is only useful if you cut the vegetable into 2-inch blocks, then it is ready to slice. If you don't use the slicing guard you are slicing by hand, hence the slicing glove (which I HIGHLY recommend). If it is a long vegetable like a carrot or zucchini, it is easier if you cut them in half, then slice. For potatoes, we have found slicing them on the side instead of the end gets better slicing results. You have to move the vegetable just right or it will get caught in the blade. make sure when you do slice, it is on a clean surface because there is no catch basin, it just goes right on the counter and you really can't put anything underneath it because then your mandolin will not be on a flat surface. It is so easy to clean. You just pop out the blade from the back and wash all the components. It is great too that the blades have a nice storage box, so you won't have to worry about leaving sharp edges out. Overall, I am happy with this and will continue to use it, I just need to practice more so I can slice smoothly.

This is amazing. Where has it been my whole life.
Got this as an early birthday gift from my biggest fan of when I cook/create meals. (My mum) I’ve been apprehensive of a mandolin besides cutting my fingers off they seemed like a gadget. I can cut vegetables fruit whatever the same thickness fast. I can julienne in a few seconds I thought. This thing comes along and wow. Does everything. Killer holder for holding the medium bring sliced. It stands up orvsits on a bowel. A ton of different slicing grating inserts. Adjustable from 1-9mm oh man. Fell in love. I use it for root veggie fries (julienne). Fruit for crepes (so thin, grating cheese, zesting, and not grating my finger tips. It’s one of those items you think is a waste until you use it!! Like my stand mixer/ you think meh- don’t need that silly tool. WRONG it saves time makes life easier and safer. My only complaint and it’s a dumb one because I’m obsessed with organizing and storage. Is that even though the blade inserts have a sexy box for the ones not being used you still have one in the machine and you have to get an odd fitting storage tote for it a 7 quart plastic bin is perfect but a very very small price to pay for a tool that makes quick work of many tasks. You won’t regret. Plus made in Austria!!

Great inexpensive mandoline. Rivals the performance of my old German model which cost a couple of hundred USD decades ago
I love this mandoline. I had a German made professional mandoline for many years. It unfortunately disappeared. I have yet to find anything I could do with my very expensive professional model I can't do with this. I did have a bit of a problem adjusting to the V-slicer rather than a straight blade, but I got used to it. Customer service is great, the product works perfectly. I can't get the produce in from the garden fast enough. I also bought NoCry gloves at the same time and I'm amazed at how quickly I get through bushels of veggies. I've tried many other plastic models, which can be ok for small jobs, but this is exceptional. I LOVE that you can choose the exact thickness needed, that it fits on bowls even if they have a lip, that the blades are ultra sharp. I can't think of anything I don't like. I HAD TO UPDATE THIS REVIEW. I have now been using this for a few months. It is now used constantly in my home. We breezed through canning and preserving season with less effort than you can believe. Counter space is precious, but this tool stays out. So easy to clean. I also have an air fryer so air fried root veggies are an almost daily treat around here. I also discovered the wavy blade for waffle cutsweet potato fries and quick (refrigerator) pickled things. More surface area, quicker marination. I wish I could give it 10 stars, maybe 100. On some other issues I have answered or commented on, ALWAYS WEAR A CUT GLOVE AND EXCERCISE EXTREME CAUTION. PAY ATTENTION WHEN USING SHARP TOOLS. MOTHER SAYS DON'T RUN WITH SCISSORS! The other issue I've noticed is where is the product made. I know it's German/Austrian engineered and I think at least the plastic is made in the People's Republic pf China. I do know the plastic is heavy duty and well made. I am sure the Mueller website or their help facilities (WHICH ARE EXCELLENT) can tell you, If you have issues with German/Austrian products, I understand. I will point out the the German Jewish branch of my family still owns and runs their manufacturing and world wide retail business (est. 1873) from the German town that bears the family name. It's something to think about if you don't buy German... If you haven't guessed, I'm a huge fan. I'm about to buy the chopper. I use the mandoline so much more often than I envisioned and I can't resist the chopper. Yes, I have food processors and such, but after my experience with this tool I'm looking forward to perfectly diced veggies.

Easy to use and easy to adjust thickness too
This is a nice mandolin. It sits sturdily on the counter and is wide enough to accommodate fat tomatoes and big potatoes. The guide included grips using metal tines that engage with a little pressure as you slide it down the ramp. The blades are super sharp, so I highly recommend ordering the safety gloves to prevent cuts if your using a thick setting you could easily be injured enough to require stitches. The thing I like most is how easy it is to adjust the thickness of the cuts. The dial can be set for paper thin to about 1/4 inch or more. Food slides easily down the ramp and the cuts are consistent. The blades are easy to remove for cleaning, or to change to a different style cut, but again, I recommend gloves be worn whenever you do anything with the blades. They are so sharp and that is why they do such a great job. This isn't a cheaply made product. It includes a storage box for additional blades, but it isn't big enough to include all of the blades. One blade is going to have to stay on the mandolin. It stores snuggly in the box too making it easy to keep all of the attachments together. Seriously, the blades are sharp! Order the right kind of safety gloves and you'll be all set to enjoy this cutter.

Good blades, but one significant design flaw.
The blades are sharp, so that's good. The little knob to change out the vertical slice spacing is clever and it slices finer than the simple 4.5mm / 9mm. I think it goes down to 3mm . I haven't tried for potato chips/crisps yet, but it looks good for that as i think it will cut them level. ( My Fabulous Feemster, Heuck Feemster Original Vegetable Slicer, White which is nice, flexes and tends to cut them on a slight angle with one side thinner than the other. ) Here is the MAJOR DESIGN FLAW, and it's really stupid. The vertical slicing blades PRECEDE the horizontal slicing blade. They are arranged in a straight line vs the horizontal blade V shape. So on fries, or shoe strings or any Vert + Horiz slicing operation, you always "lose" the last slice. You can't advance the food to the horizontal blade when it is one slice thick because the vertical blade will stop you. On my other mandolin, the vertical blade array is underneath the horizontal blade, so you can push with the heel of you hand safely all the way up to the horizontal blade. On this slicer, the heel of your hand will be shredded by the verticals. When the food gets thin, you are slicing it into strips VERTICALLY FIRST and then attempting to shove the strips (and i don't know how to shove them, the pusher won't go below the vertical blades) through the horizontal blade, which is impossible. There may be a partial solution to this, let's use a potato for example and imagine you are slicing shoe strings or thickish hash browns. Cut the tater in half. Put the flat side on the bed of the mandolin and operate as normal, BUT, when you get to about an inch thick, turn the tater 90 degrees and run it by hand, carefully through the mandolin on "edge". You'll get down to about a single french fry of waste instead of a whole slice. By the way, I made french fries with the Feemster this way forever. I'd slice the taters and then run the slices through the feemster vertically. You are holding them with your hand, but since they are thin-ish, they require very little force cuz you are just slicing one fry wide. The other cool thing about this is that your fries will be perfectly square because you are using the same setting in both directions. On the Mueller, you need to be very precise setting the depth so that it matches the spacing of the vertical blade array, but this can be done. Be VERY, VERY CAREFUL!. Use the holder/pusher! I am NOT NOT NOT recommending you feed this device with your hand unless you really, really know what you are doing and careful, patient and precise. I am NOT NOT NOT responsible for any protein that mixed in with french fries or hashbrowns due to sloppy use of the machine.

Faster sharper chopping
This has cut my chopping time down to a third for the time it was taking me previously. I make lots of pickles and it was taking me so long to chop everything but this is fantastic! I use this for tomatoes, sliced first then put in, then onions in half then pushed through, works a treat in no time. I also use it to chop cauliflower for pickles and it has been just awesome, so glad I brought this!
