Well made and sturdy, many uses!
While the description said this was for a rain barrel, it was also the perfect fit for my needs. I have a dehumidifier that is set up for continuous use with a drain hose. Luckily for me, the place where I wanted to put it had a sink previously. We used the old sink drain to feed the hose into, but I wanted something a bit more permanent. I used an ABS cap and drilled a hole through it to insert this fitting. I attached the fitting to the cap, and glues the cap on the drain. Now we have an airtight leak proof connection that cant be accidentally pulled out of the drain.

Bigger than the original hole… but that’s an easy fix.
Far, FAR sturdier than the little plastic nub they replaced, this little pass-through will probably outlast the barrels I installed them in. Getting them into the barrels was a little fiddly (Yes, I got my dumb 6’ tall, broad shouldered butt stuck in a rain barrel and couldn’t get out for five minutes. No, there’s no video of that, thank goodness. I think I got away with no one noticing.) but once I got them in they’re exactly what the doctor ordered. Two installation notes: - they are bigger than the standard pre-drilled hole in the rain barrel. I had to widen it. - if you need to adjust the alignment of the tank fitting after you’ve tightened it down, you may need to loosen it first to preserve the washer. I connected a y-splitter to the outside, and needed to rotate it in order to get the orientation I wanted; twisting it without loosening it first deformed the washer and broke the seal. It worked fine after reinstalling.

Great product
This is an extra good product. I chose the metal version of this product because the interior diameter is larger than that of its plastic versions out there. The actual outside diameter of the nipple was 1-1/32". Because I wanted a near snug fit, I drilled a 1" hole with a paddle bit, and then filed the rest until I could slide the nipple in without any resistance. I only had to file 1/64" of the material all around the hole (1-1/32" nipple - 1" hole) / 2 = 1/64 material to file all around hole. Only took me a minute or two with a good small metal file (not to be confused with jewler's file). The rubber "O" ring gasket sets so close to the out side diameter of the nipple, that I did not want to risk having the gasket riding the edge of the hole. I like my gaskets setting on a flat surface, for maximum sealing area. The directions say you can drill a 1-1/16" to 1-1/8" hole, but I wouldn't go any larger than a 1-1/16" hole.

A product that you can love!
Works like a charm, well built, no fuss. I *strongly* suggest that you buy this one: go brass, pay the extra few cents and don't buy the cheap plastic ones. Your wisdom will be rewarded! Note: This is not a lead free product, it's OK for irrigation but it should not be used for drinking water. The inside (ID) is bigger than it looks on the picture, and it's a good thing. There is more flow ;-) I have 3 barrels in line and I was a bit worried about the flow between them when there is a downpour. The OD of the tread is 26.3 mm / 1.03" , so you can use a 1" spade and finish with a file. Recommended is 1 1/8" The only thing I did differently was instead of dropping the the bulkhead into the barrel and then go trying fishing it, I used a bit of irrigation polytubing : It allows to make the whole process faster. The ID of the bulkhead fits perfectly, and you just bring the bulkhead directly to the hole. see picture.

Does one job, and does it well
I had a similar unit fail, and lost all the water in my rain barrels. I replaced it with this, and so far, so good. Install is easy, and it appears to be performing well, without leaking. Time will tell how well holds up. Good that it claims to be lead free.

Straight-threaded metal bulkhead fixture works great for rain barrels!
I have been using rain barrels for many years. The Earth Minded rain barrels ahve really cheap rubber gaskets which wore over time, plus I managed to score some 30 gallon plastic barrels for conversion. This requires a much smaller hole than the plastic bulkhead fixtures and you don't have to worry about cracking from over-tightening. One minor issue is that if you want to mount a spigot using the internal thread, you will need a BUNCH of teflot tape to make this snug and seal properly. I recommend instead using a high-flow hose adapter instead - they are cheaper and mount easily. Nelson Rezimar High Water Flow Kink-Free Hose Adapter with Coil 50305

Great product
This worked perfectly on my spray tank. My tank had no drain. This installs easy, does not leak and allows me to connect a standard garden hose to the drain if I need to. The local home improvement store wanted $22 for the same thing.

Used for rainbarrel overflow
I bought the RAINPAL BBF020 Lead Free Compliant Brass Bulkhead Tank Fitting to attach at the overflow of my rain barrel. I didn't want to enlarge the opening on my barrel, so I twisted the bulkhead connector to get it in. This was a bit difficult. Shaving or scraping the hole in the barrel would worked better. Since the connector connects to the garden hose, I'll also be using it to fill the barrel as it sits outside of the greenhouse.
