Black Sword Envelope Opener

Good heft for flicking along the fold, tapered end to start the rip, beveled ripping edges, works precisely as it should. This is not a slicer, it is a ripper. Don't expect to just draw it along the fold like a razor. You flick it and it rips. There is a technique to it to keep the head buried in the envelope and flick flick flick the opener along the top fold. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be opening letters like your parents did.

The product design is cleverly conceived and perfectly executed. Kudos to those who marry elegance to function through the use of simple shapes and materials; they are true designers. The opener functions as intended, so no more paper cuts. Letter openers are not meant to be used as knives. The nearest they get to knifehood is when they are used to stab someone through the heart. In the Library. With a letter opener.Those expecting the sharpness of a knife are naive and probably read too many murder mysteries. By the way, the black is not a true black; it is a deep bronze color, but attractive, nonetheless.

I compared quite a few letter openers before I chose this one and I’m glad I did. I made the right choice. The price was excellent and I’m very happy with the letter opener. It’s not sharp enough to cut you, but it’s perfectly beveled on both sides to run cleanly through an envelope.

Product looks and feels sweet. However, it’s honestly pretty dull even to open mail. I had to sharpen it just to give it that crisp feeling when opening mail. Now it works just fine and it’s fun to use

Classic design but blade will bend if used on a package. Recommend just for opening typical paper envelopes.
