Vertigo [Blu-ray] [4K UHD]

A classic film (of its time).
Just let this film take you to San Francisco in the 1950’s - few cars on the road, always sunny, beautifully photographed. The plot is thin and silly at times; special effects are special for their day. But the acting and background music are top class. Enjoy it for what it is.

Stylish but obvious plot
Not really in the league of Rear Window, Psycho or North By Northwest. Can't understand why the critics rave about it. Beautiful period piece shooting & style and James Stewart's tortured character is good to start with but ends up being just boring, a loser & creepy. Novak's good but no Grace Kelly. If you're going to do Hitchcock the above films definitely come should come first, and Strangers on a Train.

Probably the best from one of cinema's greats
At first watch I really enjoyed this film, but it wasn't easy to see why people ranked it over some of Hitch's best: North By Northwest for example which is easily accessible and great fun. However after a few viewings this has secured it's spot in my mind as Hitchock's best film. Perfect atmosphere, brilliant performances by James Stewart, Kim Novak et al. Bernard Herrmann's brilliant score, the famous dolly zoom, the dream sequence, the intrigue of the plot that keeps you guessing until the end, the use of light and colour, there are so many reasons why this is the most accomplished piece in Hitchcock's oeuvre. Out of the many Hitchcock films I truly love and rate high amongst my favourite films, this is the highest. One of the best films from one of the best directors. A must-see for any cinephile and a recommendation for anyone who likes an intriguing plot and good acting.

Is this a work of genius?
Alfred Hitchcock's film was a flunk when released back in the 1950's.And I have to say there are faults. Sometimes the storyline leaves the watcher a little bemused about what is going on.I've watched it three times over the years and it just gets better each time. Now whether that's me getting older or a true work of genius weaving it's magic I don't know. Please make your own mind up, but don't miss it and don't rush it, I think it may well be the work of genius.James Stewart, just great.

MADE ME ORDER THE BFI CRITICAL REVIEW OF THIS EXCEPTIONAL FILM
Vertigo has been a part of my life since it was first released in 1958. I was living in Chicago and about to depart for U.S. Army service and this was the last film I saw before leaving that great city. The blu-ray edition, which for some reason is not yet available in our country except as part of a Hitch collection, is not only dazzling, but adds a new dimension to the film (for me, at least) and I am obsessed with viewing it many more times. I also recommend the BFI analysis. It's a brief paperback at a very reasonable price--and worth at least 10 times what I paid for it. I was overjoyed to see this film jump to BFI's #1 position, and it should remain there forever.

Hitchcock's best film!
I just watched Vertigo for a 2nd time. The first time I watched it, I really enjoyed it. I gave it a 9/10 on the first viewing, but after watching it a 2nd time, I thought it was fantastic! The direction, the style, the story, the visuals, the atmosphere, the soundtrack, the performances are all wonderful. I think it might be James Stewart's best performance out of all the films I've seen him in. Kim Novak also did a great job. Many Hitchcock films I've rated a 9/10, but in my opinion, this one deserves a 10/10! "Vertigo" is in my top ten favourite films of all time!
