What do you strike the fire starter stick against to make a spark?

Although the fire striker is small in size, but you can scrape the fire striker with the heavy file/ the knife to create a pretty spark. You can use the side of the striker's straight edge, either in one direction to shoot a spark, or rapidly back and forth, to keep a spark going. Trial and error, but practice is the key.
