Was a bit apprehensive about spending alot on a reel but after constantly buying cheap reels I decided to spend the extra for a branded product and it hasn't disappointed.Great quality, will last for years aslong as its washed down after fishing.I use mine with 15lb braided line for sea fishing, it can take higher weight line but I wouldn't go past 20lb line otherwise you won't be able to cast very far.

I have owned the 3000 version for a couple of years now . Its a very solid reel for the money , I liked the reel so much i decided to buy the next size up . Top reels for the money . ive landed fish 10lb+ on the 3000 and it handled it no problem . The drag is one of the best I've used in a fixed spool reel . Quality kit for a daft cheap price . 10/10

Bought this reel for hard fighting pollock and reel is doing the job well. Have it on a squadron 2, 9 ft, perfect combination. Only down side and think me very picky but I like to keep reel box but this one came with postal tape all over it, No outer packaging just penn reel box with amazon stickers on it. But good reel for price.

I used this Penn 8000 Reel today at Texas City Dike, Texas. I take the drag off so the fish will not pull the rod in the ocean or break the pole, reel, or line. I have seen this happen. There are sharks in this waterway that are several hundred pounds. I caught 2 Monster Drum Fish. One fish ( 36" fish)on my old reel. The drag could not hold the fish. I had to pull it ashore by hand.However, a short time later. I caught another Monster Drum ( 24" fish, see pictures) on the new Penn 8000 reel. I forgot to set the drag in the excitement. However, the Penn 8000 brought the fish in, and I was able to pull the fish up without a net (since the first fish broke my net).Some have complained and returned this product because "it was loose." I was going to buy this reel a few years ago at a local Fish and Boat store. It was approximately $150. However, you had to state whether you are left-handed or right-handed. I think all these reels are "right-handed ( since the majority of people are right-handed). When you try to attach the handle on the left-hand side, it is very loose and does not crank the line spool. The manufacturer may have an adapter for left -handed people.I highly recommend this product.
