NETGEAR fan for years, great cable modem and no monthly fees. UPDATED 2020
This is an incredible modem when paired arithmetic the NETGEAR Nighthawk X-10 AD7200 router. Basic set up is very simple, a call to one of the supported cable companies and your good to go. Modem gets warm, especially when you got several devices drawing from it. I always mount a small fan on side of my modems to help with heat issues. Been a NETGEAR fan for many years now and this is the first cable modem I have ever owned made by them. Many Motorola modems over the years and this one seems to be much better than any of those I have purchased. I always buy my own equipment as the modems supplied by TWC/ Spectrum are not real great. Took one back after having it a week once and got another in exchange. The thing was already making a rattling sound before I left the TWC store. Took it back and have purchased my own equipment ever since. No monthly rental fees and no cheaply made junk that needs to be constantly exchanged. Only cons I have with this modem compared to others I’ve owned is it gets warm , dosent really show bonding like Motorola models (the arrows turn blue) and it’s built very well, but bottom seems a little unsteady. Has on/off switch which is a great feature for when you need to reboot equipment. Overall, very pleased with this modem. Did buy the protection plan for it as well. Updated June 15th, 2020 My NETGEAR modem is still working like a champ and it’s not having any issues keeping up with the number of additional items we have added to our home network. -We have two iPad Pro 10.5 inch devices running most all day. -We replaced our HVAC unit and have a Wi-Fi Thermostat running around the clock. -We have two iPhones connected to our home network. -Our receiver for the Surround Sound is connected to the NETGEAR S8000 assignable switch. -The Oppo - BDP 105 player is attached to the switch. -The Roku Ultra 4K player , which stays on nonstop now, is also connected to the switch. -I have a Oppo-UDP 205 that I play CDs through if I’m not watching the TV hooked to the switch. -I also have a HTPC that goes back to the Nighthawk router that decodes my MQA CDs -Our home automation system by Homeseer is continuously running off the modem. -We also have an Apple TV device that’s hooked up to the switch, but never use it. -I have a Astell&Kern Hi Res portable player that I also listen to Tidal on. -Our security system is also connected by Wi-Fi and with cellphone as well. -We have a NAS system hooked directly to the router with movies and music on it. -Lastly we have a Samsung Tablet and a Amazon Kindle also on our home network. The 2 iPads are on all day and the receiver as well as either the Roku or the HTPC are also on , so are the Wi-Fi thermostat and the two phones along with the Home automation system. We’ve had several other things running as well at the same time and the modem has never overheated or have we had issues with buffering or other issues. It’s mostly a lot of rack mounted items in a closet in my dedicated music room where my vinyl collection and my High end stereo system is located. The closet has a huge rack system that stays locked up and the modem and the router are also in this unit on a shelf. There is a NETGEAR switch in the 42 space rack, the NAS system. A computer that rarely gets any use now and it’s where the one Oppo-205 is located as well as the Roku and the Surround Sound receiver. It’s decluttered our living room and most all of our BluRay and DVDs are burnt to the NAS devices. We have the shelves built to hold the physical disk and CDs. Everything in our den that we use is controlled by an IR repeater. Even our cable box is in the rack. We have some other things as well like a Drawer mounted KVM smith with a screen, but it rarely gets much use since Windows Home Server was discontinued and the two identical servers I built are just not used anymore. We have Spectrum internet and it use to be the fastest one available, but since they took over Time Warner, they’ve added a newer speed. It’s not a need for us yet! But with everything becoming Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, we might have to upgrade to the faster speed. If we do, I’m definitely going to buy the NETGEAR CM1200 if I need to. I’ve noticed a lot of people who are having issues with thier modems. It’s more than likely your ISP as we had a lot of issues with ours and they have finally got the bugs out. We went through three different Motorola modems , all we’re having issues with overheating and Time Warner would not be able to ping them and get to our modem. I finally got tired of dealing with them and just about the time I was going to drop them, they were bought out by Spectrum. Since Spectrum has taken over, even though we still have Time Warner on our Bill, the service is more stable and we rarely ever loose our internet. We don’t have a house phone, but we are still paying a lot for cable and for streaming services. But the most important thing is that our equipment is not getting fried from the ISP now. It’s also important to remember that no matter if you have cable or satellite service, it all is coming from a satellite signal of some kind from some location. We’re now getting our cable from Austin and it’s much better than it use to be. We had issues with the cable box pixelating all the time. We have a six tuner DVR plus the HTPC has a Cable card device in it that records and through software plays back the recording in 1080p. We are going to get a 4K TV and receiver when this pandemic is over as well as a new 7.2 DTS speaker system. We have a 7.2 speaker system now, but it’s getting outdated. It just depends on what happens to our Country and what person becomes president! If the economy collapses then we’re not getting anything. But if the get the Administration free from corruption, then we will be buying a 4K system. I like the fact that NETGEAR has apps to control the router and I e never had any issues with getting tech support from them, even after my initial free trial ran out. I can reboot my router from my iPad and see what is connected with their apps. It’s just quality made equipment. Some may get a bad egg, but there are so many counterfeit items on the market these days, you may make sure you are buying the authentic item! We only buy our Apple devices from the Apple store or from Apple.com.

After getting kicked off internet up to 5+ times a day, this was a LIFE SAVER
My boyfriend and I purchased this in a combo with "Netgear (R7000-100PAS) Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band WiFi Router". We've been using it for a few weeks now and I must say, we are BOTH happy campers!! My boyfriend and I are both video gamers, not heavy into it but at least enough where we play a couple hours a night on our computers or on our separate X-Box's. We had a modem given to us by our internet provider (Timewarner/Spectrum) that we'd been using for at least two years, but we were having troubles with the internet being slow, even after repeated calls to Spectrum. Figuring our modem had just finally crapped out, we went to walmart and purchased an Arris surfboard and if anything, that made the problem worse to the point where I couldn't even look at Facebook videos on my phone while my boyfriend was playing on his computer. My phone constantly kicked me off the internet, and if I tried the xbox while he was on the computer, it would kick us BOTH off mulitple times. Again, endless calls to our internet provider, tried switching modems, nothing worked. Finally as a last ditch effort, we decided to go big or go home and purchased this and the "Netgear (R7000-100PAS) Nighthawk AC1900 Dual Band WiFi Router", as I stated earlier. No longer do we get kicked! In fact, it improved our internet speeds! I'm not a tech person, not with modems and routers and stuff like that so maybe we really didn't need to buy this but I can tell you that I'm glad we did. Would I recommend it to someone? You bet I would! I wish I could give it more than five stars. My boyfriend and I are both extremely happy with this purchase!

Netgear CM700 and Orbi Wireless Mesh Router Nothing but ease and speed!
I use Xfinity Comcast as a provider. I recently updated my aging Zoom 5363 Cable modem wireless device. I also went to Xfinity extreme from 150Mbps to 250Mbps the Zoom modem is unable to handle this speed due to the filters and lack of down speed channels (8x4) . I decided to split the cable modem and wireless setup, so I added and Orbi wireless mesh wireless router. The CM 700 cable modem has 32 downstream and 8 upstream channels. Set up was a piece of cake, connected the modem called Comcast had it provisioned in less than 10 min up and running. At 250Mbps the modem was locked on 20 of the 32 available downstream channels and 4 of the 8 available upstream channels. I tested internet speed and was receiving 296Mbps Downloads and 30Mbps uploads! Truly Fantastic! Next, I installed the Orbi WiFi router mesh system it is a great product AC3000 and tremendous speed improvement in my wireless network speeds and coverage throughout my 2700sq home. I am a digital geek and have approx. 20 devices running on the system from smart phones (5) to smart TVs (4) to ipads to desktop and laptop computers. With these 2 upgrades to my system I now even see speeds up of 275.42 Download and 28.91 uploads at 14ms off my iPhone alone, needless to say I have seen an overall improve of almost 4-5 times greater downloads for my devices. I have been in the tech industry for over 20 years and this is simply on to the easiest setups I have ever experienced. This bundle will set you back about $500 but well worth the price given the speed and performance. WFI - I noticed a lot of incorrectly tagged modem reviews under the CM700 that do not seem to go product so take what you see with a grain of salt.

CM700 been working great ever since Comcast got their crap together (for the moment)
Update: This modem has actually become stable for the past several months. Either Comcast really fixed the internet issues in my area and/or updated the firmware for this modem since my initial problems. Now this modem is stable and rarely causing issues. For the price I don't have any complaints...as long as this thing stays stable for the foreseeable future. Fingers crossed. When I purchased this in April to replace an Old Arris model cable modem (that was having similar reboot issues) I LOVED it. Was fast and really took advantage of my Internet plans speed from Comcast. Fast forward 4 months later, and now sometimes I need to reboot this thing 4+ times a day. Been really frustrating. Of course I'm outside of the free technical support window, and also my return window from Amazon. At this point I don't know if this a ploy from Comcast to force you into paying their exorbitant prices to rent a modem/router (because this is my second purchased modem having these issues 2 different brands/models) or if this Netgear modem is just a POS. I guess it's now a 100$ paperweight because I can't go on constantly having to reset my modem. Can't imagine it will last very long having to be restarted so much...I frequently work from home, I also enjoy online gaming as well as streaming TV content online. I just can't have these types of issues. IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

Amazing
I can't begin to tell you what misery I've gone through in recent months with regard to my ISP and my download speeds. I'm paying for the highest level of Internet service, yet for the past few months, service has been getting slower and slower. Most of the time in the past couple of months (especially during peak evening hours), we were getting about 1 - 5 Mbps. That's it! Granted, the new development that I'm living in is growing rapidly, and our home has many connected devices; still, 1- 5 Mbps is absurdly bad for what I pay my ISP every month. After much troubleshooting over many days--too much to go into here--I had finally narrowed the problem down to the crappy cable modem that my ISP always gives me. I replaced the original unit that they gave us when we moved a year ago, but that unit died within a day or two. I went to the ISP's local store and demanded a brand new unit (and not just another "tested" and recycled refurb). Garbage too... still getting unacceptably slow speeds. I finally bought this unit. I love it. No more built-in-but-subpar-and-mostly-useless WiFi which I disable anyhow. No more built-in telephony--which is fine because we've been thinking about getting rid of the house phone anyhow. The CM700 does one job and does it fabulously well. This thing is stupid-easy to set up. After connecting to my ISP and getting the unit activated, I was back in business. Wow! I'm finally getting the speeds for which I've been paying my terrible ISP for over the past year. Because of our unique circumstances, I have no option (for now) but to keep my wireless router in the basement next to the cable modem. Still, even on the second floor in the master bedroom, I'm getting between 200-230 Mbps. On the third floor, it's about 80-95 Mbps in both bedrooms. (The house is about 3400 sq. ft.) A direct Ethernet connection is even crazier... a steady 275 Mbps. Absolutely fabulous. The results are so amazing that I've ordered another Netgear CM700 to keep as a spare. :)

Defective modem - Technical support fail
Free technical support for 90 days. Called for help on day 103 and Netgear technical support tries to sell me support extensions - $50 to $100 ! I’m going to toss this one and buy a better modem instead. Technical support strikes me as strategy to sell support extensions rather than to help consumers: Update - Replacing the Netgear CM700 with an Arris C33 modem resolved the erratic wifi speed issue. Meaning, the Netgear CM700 appears to be defective. Research reveals the CM700 uses a frequently malfunctioning Intel Puma Chipset. And the malfunction produces the same sort of erratic wifi speed changes and green flashing downstream light that I was experiencing. “Buffer Bloat”. I suspect the CM700 gets stellar reviews because light weight usage - browsing, streaming - might not be enough of a load to reveal the issue. I suggest CM 700 users speed-check their network multiple times a day. If you get, for example, 485mbps on one check and get 40mbps five minutes later. And you are constantly seeing huge changes in speed, then I should think you’ve got a malfunctioning chipset. I believe my CM700 arrived defective. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Speed check this devil and make sure it’s working well before your 90 day service warranty expires. BTW, don’t use the eero app to speed test your wifi. Download a couple of reputable speed check mobile apps to do the job. Good luck with your CM700!

Amazing Companion with the Nighthawk X4S!
This review is based on the X4S router but since I bought this modem bundled, I think it makes sense to include it here. I bought this router after a Comcast tech support guy recommended me ditching the standard Comcast router and buy a dual band router. I wasn't aware that there are significant differences. I've researched and read about dual band support and Netgear's offerings. I had high hopes after my research. So I bought this Netgear X4s along with the Netgear CM700 modem. Before installing the devices, I made a couple of speed tests. SPEED TESTS ================ I own about 15+ devices that connected to the internet via WIFI only. So here are my download Speedtest benchmarks (before and after installation). I am running 10 computers in the background while these tests were taken. iPhone 6 Plus: ------------------- 25 Mbps vs 89 Mbps Woah! Big improvements there. Before the upgrade for some reason my iPhone is stucked at 25Mbps while my Samsung S8 plus is able to get 40Mbps. Samsung S8 Plus: ------------------- 38 Mbps vs 88 Mbps Woah! Another big improvement there. Now my iPhone 6 and S8 are now on par in terms of download speed! Macbook 2013 ----------------- 45 Mbps vs 89 Mbps Wow! My speed doubled! Again it's on par with all my smartphones now Raspberry clusters (8 machines) ------------------- If you don't know what Raspberrys are, Google it. 23 Mbps vs 27 Mbps Not much improvements here. Take note these devices only support 2.4 Ghz Xbox One ----------------- 90 Mbps. I wasn't able to test the speed before the upgrade Check the screenshots for more detail info. INSTALLATION ================ I have an account with Comcast. Tech guy told me to call them after I got the new modem and router so that they can activate it. However I have a background in computer and electronics, so I decided to plug the devices on my own. I check the admin website. "Magically" the devices were able to contact Comcast and I got my internet in less than 2 minutes. I called the support hotline just to make sure I didn't miss anything. The second tech guy said they need to activate my unit before I can get an internet. But it turns out the unit activated itself with Comcast. Sweet. ADMIN TOOL ========== I am a power user, and I like how fully feature is the admin UI are. I am able to configure my DHCP and security options with no issues. If you're new with computers, the admin tool will OVERWHELM you. MOBILE APP ========== The mobile app for iPhone and Android are a wonder to use. It's simple and again fully featured. I can see all the devices I have and I can make my iPhone and Samsung S8+ browse each other's photo directories. MISCELLANEOUS ============ Wireless printing was a big suprised to me! I was planning in replacing my 3 year old cheap wired HP printer with a wireless one so I can print from my mobile phones. But to my surprise the router is able to turn my printer into a wireless printer. That's a big bonus ISSUES ====== USB drives sharing support is questionable. The router is unable to read my expensive 32GB Lexar USB; however my cheap Sandisk 16 USB is readable. DURABILITY ========= I can't tell yet. I had only the device for a day or two I recommend this modem (and the router) to everyone who desires to improve their wireless speed connections.

My experience till now is 5/5
I have been using this for almost a week and yes this does what it says it would, I have been using time warner cable provided router modem combo for a very long time and despite of what they say about giving 300 down and 20 up speeds they never really delivered.. their modem router combo struggled a lot when we had multiple devices using the internet at the same time which was very frustrating since I was paying 100 per month for it so I did some research and found out about this modem and then I even bought net gear orbi 2pack router and my speeds are sky high every single devices get 320 down and 25 up at any location in the house. It's mostly done by router like giving signals and all but modem are equally as important why you may ask well watch the video on YouTube called what is channel bonding. It's not always about speeds channel bonding is the most important thing when it comes to providing signals to multiple devices at the same time. Netgear cm700 modem and netgear 2pack orbi router cost me about 500 dollars in total but I am getting my money worth no lag no cutouts in speed everything in blazing fast and this modem can support up to 1.4 gb which is somewhat future proof and netgear orbi is the best router you can get out there especially for someone which big houses watch the reviews guys actual video reviews before buying all this products always. You don't always have to buy what others buy, just get what you need. Hope this was helpful I ain't a professional reviewer so I tried rest is up to you good luck
