Can this be used for gaming? (Looking into as a gift for my boyfriend)

That depends on your definition of "gaming." If you are looking to play modern AAA titles, then no. However if you want to play retro gaming, this system can play anything from the Atari 2600 up to the PS1 era. It is also MAME compatible, so it can play arcade roms. It is capable of emulating retro computers as well (Such as Atari 800, Commodore 64,Amiga,etc) You can use any USB controller: Xbox360, USB NES, SNES and Atari controllers all, work pretty well. As a small aside: you CAN install Steam on Rasbian. However you will find it's supported library a bit... Lacking.

Is it possible to get this model with 8gb ram?

The price that this scalper is selling it for should be for 8gb of ram. No Im wrong it should be at least 16 gb for this price. Raspberry Pi only makes this in the 4 Gb version or ram.
