This is a high quality and heavy granite mortar and pestle with just the right amount of roughness to do the job. I received the set as a gift and noticed a chip in the head of the larger pestle during the seasoning process. That is the only reason I did not give five stars. I have requested a replacement pestle and will re-rate when/if I receive a replacement. ChefSofi responded to my request within 24 hours and just a few days later I received a replacement pestle. Very impressive. I highly recommend this set. Not only is is very functional, it's also beautiful. And, the customer service is the best I've experienced. Very impressed. Totally worth five stars!

Update: This was a great set, great size and I loved it. Only problem is I used it 3 times and the bigger pestel started to chip and then broke in half at the handle so if its possible to buy the pestles separately. I'd say buy them elsewhere so far the mortar seems ok. I thought the quality was better from most of the reviews but now im not sure if i just happened to get a bad piece. But broken after 3 uses is pretty lame. Using these are a staple in our culture and hard to find around my area i had high hopes with this and with the amount of money spent on it.so thats why I give it a 2 star. They reached out to me and were very kind and willing to help me get the pestle replaced. So decided to go ahead snd try this second time. I appreciate how kind and willing they were to help. So I will find out on whether, maybe it was just a bad batch and I can see how long it will last me.

One of the pestles showed up broken. There's no way of knowing if that was the fault of the manufacturer, the shipper, or Amazon. The important thing is that ChefSofi customer service was great, and they immediately shipped me a replacement pestle. I haven't put it to much use yet, but so far the quality seems great and it looks nice too!

It's bigger than I pictured, it is extra large. Looks and feels like high quality. The curing & seasoning process is kind of laborious, but from what I researched is a must for the unpolished granite. Watch some YouTube on curing unpolished granite mortar & pestle videos to see if this is right for you. I think I'll enjoy this product for a long time.
