3rd edition has significant improvements
I found this official review of Wards 101 3rd edition. It got a nice review overall.--Reviewer: Adrienne M. Kania, DO(Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine)Description: This is a concise collection of critical highlights of most medical specialties, indispensable for any medical student or practicing physician.Purpose: The authors sought to compile a list of essential information as a quick bedside reference to assist in appropriate and timely delivery of medical care. From formats for writing discharge notes to current recommendations for treatment of congestive heart failure or DSM-IV criteria, this pocket-sized book provides ready answers.Audience: Although most useful to medical students and residents, this book would be welcomed even by seasoned internists with its current recommendations across multiple specialties from the respective colleges and national healthcare agencies. Dr. Katzel and his former internal medicine chief residents have diligently achieved their goal of providing a quick reference that fits in a pocket or medical bag.Features: Particularly helpful is the table format used for medications for hypertension, infectious diseases, psychiatric conditions, and ventilator settings. Even more useful to me as an internist is the chapter on pediatrics as this is an area of medicine in which I am occasionally asked to consult. Additionally, there are rulers on the back cover to assist in EKG interpretation and measuring the size of lesions. The only shortcoming of this book is that medical treatment and recommendations change rather quickly nowadays, leading to a limited lifespan for this edition.Assessment: I wish this guide were available during my residency days. Despite this being the digital age, this book is useful because users don't have to waste time performing a search for guidelines, algorithms, etc. Not only is it smaller than The Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics, 33rd edition, Foster et al. (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2010), but it is more inclusive, covering preventive medicine, pediatrics, and women's health issues. With the advent of evidence-based medicine, this edition includes current recommendations for evaluation and treatment of the most common diseases encountered in the U.S.

wonderful little helper in the wards
wonderful little helper in the wards. print just too small. suggest next edition that they keep same width to fit in pockets but they can double the length that way they can enlarge the print a bit. additional length still acceptable as it will still fit most white coat pockets.it could be lengthened another 2-3 inches to allow for a bit larger print.

It is a great survival summary for working at the hospital
It is a great survival summary for working at the hospital. I loved the review questions at the end of a chapter, I just wish for there would be more.

Didn't realize you were so tiny and cute!
I was really surprised to find that this is a pretty little book. It will fit great in my lab pocket though. I think it's an awesome little handbook full of great need-to-remember points. Glad I got it.
