The 20th anniversary edition of the “brilliant and practical” (Tom Peters, author of The Professional Service 50) business classic—now updated to reflect the digital world—provides essential tools and wisdom for all consultants, negotiators, and advisors. In today’s fast-paced networked economy, professionals must work harder than ever to maintain and improve their business skills and knowledge. But technical mastery of one’s discipline is not enough, assert professional advisors David H. Maister, Charles H. Green, and Robert M. Galford. The key to professional success, they argue, is the ability to earn the trust and confidence of clients. In this 20th anniversary edition, Maister, Green, and Galford enrich our understanding of today’s society and illustrate how to be effective communicators in a digital world. Using their model of “the trust equation” they dissect the rational and emotional components of trustworthiness. With precision and clarity, they detail five distinct steps you must take to create a trust-based relationship. Each step—engage, listen, frame, envision, and commit—is richly described in distinct chapters. This immensely accessible book offers “an invaluable road map to all those who seek to develop truly special relationships with their clients” (Carl Stern, CEO, Boston Consulting Group). The authors weave together anecdotes, experience, and examples of both their own and others’ successes and mistakes to great effect. The Trusted Advisor is essential reading for anyone who must advise, negotiate, or manage complex relationships with others. Review: Must Read for Anyone in Client-Facing Roles. - The Trusted Advisor is one of the best books I’ve read on building long-term client relationships. It goes beyond technical expertise and focuses on how to develop trust, credibility and genuine connection with clients. The authors explain with real examples how listening, empathy and honesty create stronger partnerships than simply “selling” solutions. What I loved most is how practical the advice is, it shows exactly how to shift from being just a service provider to becoming a true trusted partner. The balance between psychology, communication and professional skills makes it applicable across industries, whether you’re in consulting, finance or entrepreneurship. A book I’ll keep revisiting, because every chapter gives you something actionable to improve client interactions. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to succeed in advisory or relationship-driven careers. Review: Best buy - Best quality

It's like a wake up call from the comfort zone
Excellent content, presented extremely well. Very useful for anyone in jobs / careers where interpersonal skills and interaction quality is critical. Every element of the book is relevant in today's business context and in fact, you can start at any page and all of it will be practical. I have begun to use this book as my daily skill improvement pill, one page - one practice - a day to diligently apply and develop.

Must Read, No I Mean MUST Read!
Probably the best business boot I read. It relfects basically on being honest and making your client's success be your success. For young professionals starting a career and looking for a foundation, this is a must read. When I retired, I gave out five copies of this book to staff.
