Where to start ... it is like Part 2 of Beneath the Ice. We are brought back again into the prehistoric world beneath the Antartic. This time the battle isn't just against a monster but the Chinese. Three groups race to be the first to reach the US Submarine hidden far beneath the ice. A super intelligent prehistoric monster tracks them, picking them off one by one or playing a game of cat and mouse with them. We are introduced to more of the underground world this time. There are forests, cliffs to be scaled, new terrifying creatures. An amazing ecosystem is brought to life and while you feel terrified half of the time the descriptive writing from Greig leaves you in awe of this wonderous world. It is an amazing book. Very fast paced. Some wonderful twists. The characters are all brilliant. The suspense is great. Who will reach the submarine first? Who will be the next casualty? How on earth will they get back to the surface? Up topside there is a standoff between the might of the Chinese Navy and the might of the US Navy. Can the Arcadian stop WWIII from starting? A fantastic read. Thrills and spills galore. You won't be able to put it down.

Another excellent novel by Greig Beck. His Alex Hunter series rivals anyone.

What makes 'Beyond the dark ice' and 'Kraken Rising' stand out between all the Alex Hunter books? All the books are exciting, pageturning spooky. I think it's Antarctica that makes these books outstanding. Yes the jungle and the caves and the old mines are creepy, but many of us have visited mines and caves. Some readers have taken trips to the jungle. How many of us can say they went miles beneath the Antarctic ice. and as far as opponents go, the thing beneath the ice outweighs (pardon the pun) everything the Arcadian has had to fight yet. Spoiler alert, the fact that he is reunited with his son and Aimee gave me a warm feeling, badly needed after all that ice. I'm being frugal with the other Hunter books, i'm close to the end.
