Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain, Quart, Barn Red

I've been using Varathane oil-based stains for many years now because it was readily available where I shop. I was pleased to know that I could have it delivered to my door. The product performs excellently. It is very easy to apply, dries at a decent rate, and yields an even color tone on my small projects. The uniformity from can to can is very close when comparing freshly stained pieces to older ones. However, results may vary depending on several factors such as, daylight/UV exposure and stirring frequency. I'd absolutely recommend Varathane oil-based stains.

This stain was a great find and a perfect match. I messed up knotty pine cabinets with hot water steam. This stain brought them back to life!

I really don't like stain can packaging because it rarely ever looks like it does on the wood. I had a very old can of this stain (it was a different packaing but the same company, same stain) so I felt like I could ignore the image on the can and order this. When I got it, I was very sceptical but I needed to match the project I was already 90% done with- this is a perfect match for previous canned versions, but it looks nothing like the picture on the can. In reality it's darker than mid and nicely red. If you're just starting a project you should know what you're getting but go by the name, not the image.

This is great stain, it covers very easily. Used on Bathroom cabinets - what a great look in the bathroom.

Absolutely beautiful. Exactly what I wanted. As a woodworking beginner, I made a lot of mistakes but I did not make one when I bought Black cherry stain. I discovered if I used it on bare wood with nice grain, then wiped some of it off, it created beautiful red areas on the grain. I didn’t put theThe wood through the jointer as I wanted for a rustic look. Couldn’t be happier. Was able to clean up the mess using dawn and scrubber.

I provided photos of the test wood I used. I dipped a corner of a paper towel into the stain, and then applied it to the bottom right corner. Then, instead of wiping away the excess, I tried to spread it as far as it would go. The first photo, the lighter one, is pretty impressive coverage. Obviously, if I was actually staining something, I would apply more stain to the lighter areas. The other photo is the second coat, applied the same way. My conclusion is that a second coat really doesn't change anything it it's applied adequately the first time. I also think the stain looks exceptionally nice. I almost didn't buy this stain for two reasons. One was because it came in a can. I use it for hobby purposes, and one can will last a long time. Well, the stain will last a long time. I don't think the can will, and that's kind of a problem. The other reason is because it's oil based. I'm kind of clumsy, so I prefer using something that doesn't create a catastrophe if I accidentally spill it. I am, however, disappointed at the color. That's called "barn red". It seems more like a light cherry.

so easy to use- such a pretty color. i used one coat on top of a pre stain conditioner for context. (this is kona) the smell dissipated quickly and it was a quality stain that worked well!

They are good for new surfaces. If your staining on old surface, sand out the old varnish completely otherwise you'll get a synthetic paint like grey.

اول تجربة لي مع هذا النوع حبيت أغير لون خشب سطح العمل في المطبخ من فاتح لهذا اللون اللون رائع نفس اللون الي كنت احتاجه وسهل الاستخدام ونص العلبة دهنت فيه تقريبا ٣ أمتار بتغطيه لون ممتازة جدا والريحة خفيفة جدا بس يحتاج بعده دهان حماية للخشب لانه هذا فقط لون مافيه حماية من الماء عيبه سعره المرتفع بالنسبه لكميته
