No clear guides, no clear directions, absolute garbage product.
Ordered this initially and my CM4 lite module, got everything assembled, the image flashed on the SD card and the display 'patch' applied.Turned it on and... BLACK SCREEN AS IT SAT THERE FOR OVER 10 MINUTES.The only correct way to 'assemble' one of these is to RETURN IT AND ORDER THE GPI CASE2W INSTEAD.Do not purchase, do not waste your time.

Works very well once you figure out how to set it up!
The device works very well once it is set up. I’d recommend the CM4 with Wi-Fi compatibility. I used a CM4 with no Wi-Fi and found it difficult to add roms. The solution was to flash recalbox 8 and to use a Linux file explorer to access the EXT4 partition that contains the folder for roms. From there you can drag and drop the roms into the corresponding folders. Hope this helps considering there is no instructions for this online.

Wait
Update: gpi sent me a new case when i pointed out the flaws, ive had the same unit for a year or more with zero issues. I love mine and the screen is gorgeous.Great product but retroflag is clearly working out some kinks. 2/2 gpi2 cases I’ve received have issues that should of been caught by minimal QA testing. Pair with the CM4 shortage, I’d wait a little to get this. The original gpi case works with the new pi zero 2 if you are looking for something in the meantime

Great case
It took a little bit to get it going. definitely connect the front CM interface before the rear one. but once its up it works great

Too hard to setup. Broke my game card
There are too many steps to set this thing up. Too many config settings changes. the so called "patch" you have to apply does not work well with BATOCERA. They really should advertise that they "prefer" that you use a RecallBox image. So now I have this unit that I cannot use and it locked up and started showing vertical lines then that borked my game card and I can't get to the games. Make a backup of your SD card before attempting to use in unit.

Wonderful
Super Retro City, the facebook group, has pre-built images. That way the shutdown script is pre-installed as well as the key mapping. I do not have the wifi cm4 so it was good to have the dock version to load roms onto the device via the usb a port with a thumb drive. Screen is very nice. Sound is very “nostalgia” (good). Internal battery is a wonderful addition. When installing the cm4, make sure to click in the lower part of the cm4 before the upper. Otherwise, the upper part will “click in” before the lower leaving the lower not plugged in, if you arent careful. You may want to secure your cm4 first, I got the 8 gig, works great. The only thing that concerned me was the up part of the directional pad wasnt as “clicky” as the right left and down. Not a huge issue. Otherwise, the build quality of the dock and device are perfect, has more heft to it than I expected and feels durable. This is a quality item and doesnt feel cheap at all. I will update this review if anything weird happens. I was up and running with this device in about ten minutes, which also surprised me because I thought I might have to tinker with it to get it working right. There may be other reasons to get the dock, peripherals come to mind. If you dont intend to ever play via hdmi and dont need the dock, you may want to get the wifi cm4.

Just buy the GPI Case 1 untill there is case 2.5 or 3
I repair and mod gameboys as a hobby and I've been a raspberry pi enthusiast since they've been availible in the US. So I'm natually a big fan of the GPi case. So much so, I bought 5 of them as groomsmen gifts, and programmed a custom start up screen to commemorate the occasion. So natually when GPi case 2 was launched I grabbed one, but I didnt have a cm4 on hand. After a few months I finally got my hands on one. It had emmc memory. Yes you can get it working with GPI case, but your stuck with the memory you have built in, its hardware design issue where the sd card and mmc use the same pins. So if you want to add extra storage you have to use USB through, or possibly through the internal micro usb. I didn't make it any further because I got lucky and found cm4 without mmc.I then saw they were on sale and I snagged another one, thinking it would be a good gift for a family member, however I had to return it because the sound and buttons wouldn't work. Probably a manufacturing defect or something. Ether way at this point my mmc less cm4 arrived, I set everthing up, and it worked flawlessly, until the pi overheated. I then installed small stick on heat syncs, and that seemed to work for most part. It has overheated with the heat syncs but it wasn't exactly during intended use.Overall I really wish I would have just bought another Case 1 because my cm4 is really wasted by in this case. I would wait until another revison.
