made of some sort of very dense hardwood, as they should be. sound great. the average woodworker could not make these more cheaply than they can be purchased for; good product. durable laquer.

These claves are a pleasant surprise! High quality and lovely sound!

Good, But Not the Best
I'm not a professional percussionist, so take this with a grain of whatever white powder substance you prefer. I've had the traditional, darker-wood versions of clave in the past, which have a different, more interesting sound. These have a higher pitch, a lighter sound, and are a little less sonically "interesting." I can't describe it any better than that. There are some more expensive ones I wish I'd bought, as I've had them in the past and liked their sound on recordings better. These work -- but there *is* a difference.
