Can I make malted milkshakes directly, or must I boiled it first?

Thanks for asking. If I understand you correctly, you want to know if you must boil this to be safe for consumption. You do not have to boil this for the sake of food safety. However, if it has not been stored well or if have any concern about it, you can certainly do so. You can definitely use it to in other drink recipes as a powdered ingredient and any variety would offer great results. Use light malt extract to achieve the flavors found in a malted milk. The darker varieties contain some roasted barley which will add some bitterness and pair well with chocolate and coffee. The powder does not last well in the pantry because it absorbs moisture quickly. Keep partial bags in air-tight containers in the freezer. Thanks!

A good wort for a starter to grow the yeast is 1.040 or 1lb per gallon of extract.

Sorry, i make mead mostly so i have no experience with malts. do i just add dme straight to my must/mash/honeywater? or must you boil it?

you have to boil it, i usually boil it an hour and hopped in along the way. i add the honey the last ten minutes, then cool and ferment. i have also done them unhopped same way bool 60 minutes and add the honey in the last ten minutes and its also good just i love hopped a lot more.
