...the three 'R's in one gorgeous book!A friend unashamedly showed me her copy, knowing how susceptible I am to a beautiful cook-book....of course, I fell 'book, lime and Singha ( Thai beer) and ordered my own copy the next day.If anyone has read another of my reviews, they will know how much I value the look of a book, as well as the content and wallow in the entire package....plus they look beautiful on my shelves or coffee table. This book of Eleanor's is no exception. It is colourful, with gorgeous photography and the cover is divine.The content offers the reader a magical adventure ; transports you to an ancient age of dangerous, daring overland and overseas travel...mixing copious amounts of information on spices, food, lifestyles of the mega-wealthy with their opulent lifestyles across Asia.The recipes cover various cultures and countries and are do-able, as Eleanor states that she has well-tested them in her London kitchen.I also have Samarkand and Fire Islands by Eleanor Ford and adore all three.These are books to wallow in, to lose yourself , for some well-earned escapism in these troubled times...and of course, they offer wonderful recipes to tempt and tantalise those taste-buds.Enjoy the journey and spice up your life!

What a wonderful book
A treasure trove of delicious recipes. Eleanor Ford does it again with this sumptuous book, taking you through the history of spices and showing you how to cook delicious dishes with them. It’s the most used recipe book in our kitchen, and that says a lot! Simply wonderful.

This book is a revelation!
I love cooking with spice but this book was a revelation! It tells you so much about spices and their origins, as well as their uses and contributions to dishes. We have had so many good dishes from this book, the recipes are characterised by simple process but great depth of flavour. I also like the suggestions on recipes for accompaniments and complimentary sides. The rewards of the recipes outweigh the effort needed in my experience. I don't think I have ever cooked so many dishes from a single recipe book so I have just taken delivery of Eleanor's first book Fire Island, it looks just as exciting!

A must have for South East Asian food lovers
A brilliant book, recipes are well explained and easy to follow. It’s way more than a cookbook, with detailed explanations and history of spices, how to use them, how to combine them. I bought it as it was cookbook of the month in June in the great British chefs cookbook club, and I still keep on cooking from it and will keep on!There are recipes of every kind: quick preparations, dinner parties, more elaborate… really cannot recommend it enough 😊

Interesting and wonderful recipes
I bought this book in hardback, it is much more than a recipe book and really does take you on a culinary journey. I have a broken arm which means it's difficult to cook at the moment and difficult to read a heavy book. No problem in the first instance - DH who until now was an occasional cook, has used several of the recipes and they have ALL been successful. No problem in the second instance, I love this book so much that I have also bought it in kindle format.I highly recommend this book (could you tell?)

My favourite book ever purchased
I have hundreds of recipe books and honestly this is my favourite ever. I am an experienced cook with almost 50 years experience. I must say this is an absolutely excellent book. If you like experimenting and using many spices, herbs, homemade marinades, rubs and a wonderful selection of ingredients. If it was possible to submit more *s I would say 10 *

Its like cooking with a friend!
I have so many cookbooks where I have only cooked a handful of recipes..this one is a keeper a real treasure with beautiful recipes that actually work...it sits in pride of place in my kitchen and is a beautiful well-written cookbook...Love it!
