Daredevil Omnibus 1

One of the best, most refreshing takes on the character. This omnibus sees Daredevil dealing with depression by denying it and basically running away from it, leading some of the most fun and cavalier takes on the character I've ever seen. This also includes one of my favorite comic book moments during the climactic fight against Ikari. Art is also reflective of the new direction Matt decides to go in, with bright colors and clever ways of showing how he perceives the world around him.

This is an absolutely incredible story. Probably one of the greatest comic books ever written. Matt Murdock's fighting style is ingenious in how he uses his radar senses to find the weakspots of his enemies, who are often stronger, more powerful, and skilled than he is. The art is a throwback to comics of the Silver and Copper Age, and the modern twist it puts to the style is beautiful. The story is compelling, I couldn't stop reading because I just needed to see what happened next. If you don't have this book, buy it. But be aware that there's a volume 2 of this that I haven't read and I assume you need to finish the story.

Many of us who have followed DD over the years have become adjusted to the grim and dark tone that was set by Frank Miller and continued by many others over the years. This is a breath of fresh air and injects new life into a somewhat stale character up to this point. The art is light and colorful, the writing is amazing, and the inks are super tight. This is a must read. If you are familiar with Mark Waid then you will know you are in for a treat. 10/10

Mark Waid does a terrific job ! Lots of surprises and interesting plot twists. BUT, Volume 2 is even better ! So, get both Volumes 1 and 2. Minor gripe: I like “realistic” artwork. Sometimes, the art work is too cartoon-like for my taste. I attribute this to the necessity of meeting deadlines in a timely fashion. But, BUY the book. You’ll enjoy it and you’ll REALLY enjoy Volume 2.

Possibly one of the worst Daredevil stories ever told. Would not recommend to anyone unless you've always wanted Matt a happy go lucky schmuck like Archie stuck in a not quite as interesting Nightwing story.
