Legacybox 10 Item Digital Tape

A good overall experience, got to see films that have never been shown!
There are quite a few companies that will transfer old media to digital files, I think Legacy box has an overall good service experience. Quality experience, and good results.1) ORDERING, SHIPPING ETC.When you order, they ship you a nice empty box and a booklet with sequentially numbered barcode stickers. You put these stickers on your films, old VHS tapes, whatever, put it all back in the box, ship it to them, and in a few weeks, they send you back the same box, plus whatever you ordered - DVD, USB Stick, etc.. Turnaround time for me was about 6 weeks, I ordered my box as a Christmas present, so the post-Christmas rush probably added to the processing time.2) TRANSFER QUALITYIn short - don't expect more than the source material can deliver. Unlike on TV shows like "CSI" there really isn't an "enhance" function that will pull the serial number off a dollar bill that is blowing down the street.Old Super-8mm film is not great quality under the best of circumstances, and very old color film fades, so don't expect Big-screen HD video quality from your ancient films. That said, despite the lack of HD quaity source material, it would be nice to have the option to have an HD film-to-tape scan so whatever detail is in the film might be salvageable or improved with some video post-processing. The film scans came back as 640x480 video, which was a bit of a negative surprise. I'd expect at least 720p scans of films. If you have old VHS, Beta, 8mm or DV tapes, once again, don't expect some kind of HD quality images coming back. The VHS format is roughly equivalent to 333×480 pixels - slightly lower quality than an old flip-phone camera. 8mm, Hi8 and DV video are around 320x240 pixels - so there's not a lot of original image quality to get out of those old tapes. So...no matter who you use to transfer your old media, you'll face the same limits on image quality.3) CUSTOMER SERVICEI ordered my box on Amazon, and after shipping it back, a few weeks later, I had a question about my order (where is it?). There was a glitch on their web site - the order information I had in my confirmation email was not the same number needed to track my order on their web site. I called them at some ridiculous hour (like 11 PM on a Sunday) and got to a human being quickly and he handled my questions completely and professionally.3) SOME POINTERSSomething I wish I had known before I shipped the old films was that the films (which were all quite short) would be digitized onto ONE DVD in the order of the sticker numbers (obvious, I know...but...). So because I was just sticking stickers on the film cans basically at random. I accidentally split my parents wedding into two parts of the same DVD separated by various vacation films. Fortunately I know how to do video editing and so on, so I was able to rip the DVD's Legacybox sent me to my computer and re-assemble the videos into the order I wanted and burn a new DVD.4) A suggestion for Legacybox: It would be nice to have the DVD's assembled with each film as a Chapter, rather than a separate title. Also, perhaps a "premium DVD" service where I could preview the digitized films online and select a key frame and create titles for the Chapters before the DVD is burned. It would make a nicer DVD experience and would be worth an upcharge. Also, I re-edited my transfers and did some image stabilization, this would also be a nice feature to offer for a nominal fee.

Wonderful and easy experience
Wonderful and easy experience. Pay the price, get the box in the mail, pack it, return it pre-paid, get back what you thought you'd get back... couldn't be easier or higher quality... and we did our old 8mm home movies.

Quality of transfer not too good.
DVD's were not all readable and contained very little compared to the tapes sent. Quality of transfer not too good.

Very poor performance.
Very poor performance. The quality of the work was unsatisfactory. Tapes returned without working stating that the tape was damaged. I played it in the vcr and it as fine.they did not refund the $14 that I paid them to do the work. These are just a few of the items of poor performance.

There Are Better Alternatives to This Product
I was unhappy with this product. I had to send the product back because it was not produced correctly the first time. The product itself leaves much to be desired in terms of quality and how the mini DVD’s are formatted into DVDs. I would not order this product again.
