Grease, School Version (Samuel French Acting Edition)

In an effort to make this more palatable to the school audience, and the modern audience, they majorly neutered display by not only changing dialogue, but they completely excised half of Rizzo’s scenes along with the teen pregnancy storyline. It’s still the same story, but somehow it’s just not the same.

I teach drama, and this is just what I needed. I have the original version that includes words parents of grade schoolers (and some high schoolers) would object to. This unfortunately watered-down version won't offend anyone. And the new Samuel French format is (slightly) easier to read and has a nice cover. If you can stand to work with a copy of Grease wherein the cast sings "... the chicks will scream for Greased Lightin'", or want to produce Grease in a convent, buy this version!

This was a very thin, small script. The writing inside is also small and their is no room to write notes in. After receiving this, I decided not to do the show, as the script was disappointing. Everything is crammed into the pages.

Bought it for my daughter for a HS musical. Nice to be able to make notes in the script book. Will be selling after the show is done.

Some of the changes were a little strange but the script works and is cleaned up for a middle school production.

First thing first, this is not the script as seen in the 1978 movie. This is the original stage play script, before commercialisation.This version does not feature certain songs from the film, in this although advertised as a school edition, it is definitely aimed more at older kids, possibly in their final year. The language has been toned down, but be aware there are kissing scenes which these days may not be suitable for schools, as well as some adult references to sex. So although toned down, it's not altogether school friendly. Definitely for older teens or young adults.The script is very good and will make for a great production, needs a good stage and character director to bring the best out in the actors. I think recently released again for the amateur so well worth investing and considering as a production if you have the apropos cast members.With the usual stage setup, props list, costume advice and notes for the director. Nicely put together for any budding John and Olivia.

Yes, it's ok but a bit too sanitised. Better to go for the 'full' version. Changes to the lyrics of some of the songs don't quite work either but.....

Great edition for schools with younger students. All the fun of the original without the sex and cigs references. Looking forward to performing it
