The amount of water determines the length of time the eggs will be boiled. Less water means they will be less cooked. More water means they are hard boiled.

Q: Why do my soft boiled and poached eggs always come out hard boiled despite following all instructions?

Hi, I found the following to work well: 1. Don’t prick the egg, when I tried this it over cooked them. 2. Be very careful with the water measure, fill it on a level surface and exactly to the mark. 3. Remove the egg immediately the click is heard when it switches off. I have a soft boiled egg with soldiers every morning for breakfast and this approach has worked well. Do keep the hot plate clean. A quick rinse with distilled vinegar stops scale from building up and helps cleaning every time you use it.

The question has not been asked correctly. In general, it is normal for the device to just turn off. The idea is to follow safety techniques and not have a fire.
