Ethernet for Chromecast devices. Get them while you can.
I ran across this item as a result of reading articles about the certificate issue for some Chromecast sticks/discs. In a response in a forum someone said that Google had made Ethernet adapters but had discontinued them. I decided to search and see if someone else had filled that gap, and found this for an answer. You need two things that do not come in the box. An Ethernet cable and a USB-A socket for power. This is as simple as it gets. You plug it in. It works.I have a total of four Chromecast sticks/discs. I bought some extras when word went out that they were being discontinued. My Chromecast stick is a first-generation unit that I got for free with a cell phone. This is the unit I used for testing the adapter. The stick is working better than before. I still often get blurry video when it first starts up, but it clears up faster than before and further blurs happen less often. Broken connections happened now and then, not any more. These were problems I’ve had for years due to house structure and the impracticality of repositioning the router or the TV.I have ordered three more adapters for my disc units. I prefer wires to WiFi when possible. If you have need to wire up a supported device, this unit will do the job.I may not end up using them all, but I'd rather have and not need than need and not have.

Works great, plug 'n play Ethernet!
My rule of thumb is that you should always wire your stationary devices to Ethernet, whenever possible. I've spent way too much time in my life troubleshooting issues that were the result of how limited WiFi can be. If you live in an apartment, townhouse, etc. then this adapter is probably for you. If you care about your TV streaming stick/box to "just work", then this adapter is probably for you.So far, I've now used this Ethernet adapter on my Roku Express 4K+ and now on my Walmart brand "onn. Google TV 4K Streaming Box" (2023). The latter proved to be tricky due to how sensitive the onn. box is with micro USB cables, OTG power cable splitters, and USB Ethernet adapters. While the onn. is a fantastic value, it will boot loop and/or crash (distorted screen and loud audio feedback) if you aren't careful with your cabling. I was almost ready to just return the onn. box back to Walmart until I decided to try out this adapter since it worked out so well on my Roku. The adapter did not disappoint again and played nicely with the onn. box and no extra setup was needed outside of plugging everything in. The unfortunate thing is cost, this adapter costs about $5 less than what I paid for the onn. box itself and you can only get 100Mbps maximum throughout (no fault of the manufacturer). That said, the reliability and consistency you get with Ethernet is worth it making this a great purchase. Also, the 100Mbps limit hasn't prevented me from watching any 4K (w/HDR) content either nor any other issues whatsoever.

Works Great With My 1st Generation Chromecast! Works on Chromecast Audio Too!
I got this to provide my 1st generation Chromecast with faster, more reliable ethernet access given that the Chromecast is installed just above my router. I wanted to power both this adapter and the Chromecast from the USB port on the TV. I was worried that the USB port might not deliver adequate power to run either or both devices. I used a USB power meter to see how much power I could pull from the TV's USB port while charging my phone and was able to see about 1.4 amps being delivered. I hoped that would be adequate and tried it all out. It works fine! Your mileage may vary. Easy to install and use. I know that some people complain that the cable length isn't enough but in my case it is too long, if anything and I have to coil up the extra cable to keep the rat's nest in my entertainment area orderly.Added -> I like the one I got for my video Chromecast so much, I got one for my audio Chromecast as well.

Had to make a compact ethernet installation on our 18" kitchen TV
I ordered this --- Fire TV stick streaming media player, with Alexa Voice Remote (2nd Gen, released 2019) --- to add ethernet streaming to an old 19" LCD TV that has coax, component, composite, VGA and 2 HDMI inputs. This TV lives in the kitchen and is attached to via coax, and sits upon, an older cable TV box. Space is tight where the TV and cable box sit at the end of the counter.I wanted an installation as compact as possible, and, use ethernet. I didn't like the looks of the VERY short Amazon brand ethernet adapter for the Fire stick, and, since it has to be purchased separately anyway, I ordered this one at the same time, --- Price: $13.89 --- UGREEN Ethernet Adapter for Fire TV Stick (2nd GEN), All-New Fire TV (2017). It has a 3.3ft USB power cable & micro USB cable. I used the USB power supply that shipped with the Fire stick.I couldn`t have the Fire stick hanging out of one of the two HDMI ports on the TV, so I included one each of the following M x F ( 2 pcs ) extension/adapter cable sets, with my order ;* Price: $9.99 -- HDMI 2.0 Extension Cable, Cable Creation [2PCS] 1.5 Feet Upward Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable + 1.5 Feet Downward Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable, 4K Ultra HD, Black.---- And ----* Price: $9.99 -- HDMI 2.0 Extension Cable, Cable Creation [2PCS] 1.5 Feet Right Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable + 1.5 Feet Left Angle HDMI 2.0 Male to Female Cable, 4K Ultra HD, Black.I figured one of these four ext./ adapter cables would give me the correct direction from the side or rear HDMI port to remote mount the Fire stick. The male end of the angled ext./ adapter cable is plugged into the side HDMI port, goes up the side and over the top. The 18" length was ideal for a Fire stick location on top of the TV, the Fire stick male end is plugged into the female end of the ext./ adapter cable. I attached the cables and the Fire stick to the top of the TV with some homemade twist ties, fished through the heat vent slots.I plugged the Cat5e cable into the modem and the other end into the Ugreen ethernet adapter, chose HDMI-2 on the TV input and plugged in the USB power supply. After the yellow and green lights came on at the Cat5e end of the ethernet adapter, the Fire stick powered up to the setup screen. The setup was straight forward and the Fire stick works very quickly, probably because of the ethernet connection. We have an early Fire TV box ( the flat one ), attached to our big TV via ethernet and it works quickly also.We subscribe to Amazon Prime and I enjoy listening to Amazon Music through a Creative sound card in the PC, then into a good mini amp, a pair of nice small speakers, along with a sub. This old kitchen TV has very poor speakers. t has a coaxial digital audio out connector that I hooked into a DAC then into an old pair of powered PC speakers, sound was much better, but I`d need to find a place in the kitchen for more equipment !
