Easy to set up!
I wanted something that would provide a basic music sound to the house. This was easy to set up and the directions are pretty clear on how to use the remote. The sound isn't the best but it sounds good overall. If I wanted better sound I could have spent several hundred or one or two thousand. I am happy with this unit. Besides it is a Sony product and they have a good reputation so I expect it will last years. My last Sony stereo radio lasted 25 years.

Great Sound!
Bought this unit for the kitchen. It ROCKS! Unit is small but substantial. No problems at all. Radio tuning is a bit cumbersome but not a big deal. The unit was made for UK type outlets, which I had learned from previous reviews before purchasing. Comes with a US adapter and did not create an issue. I would recommend this unit to anyone needing a good sound in a room or two.

Affordable Bookshelf System -- But Only Lasted 5 Years
I owned a similar Sony bookshelf system that lasted for 18 years. The servo motor that loads and unloads the CDs finally wore out on that old system. Since that unit lasted so long, I decided to stick with the same brand. This new unit was easy to set up. I only intend to use it to play CDs (although it has one or two other features) and my rating is based on that. I "stress tested" the unit with music by Heart (Magic Man, Crazy on You), Steppenwolf (Magic Carpet Ride), and Ambrosia (Nice, Nice, Very Nice). Very pleased with the sound.Update November 2023: It was good while it worked, but that was only for 5 years.

Great sound and terrific value
I had a functional Microsystems, but its sound quality was disappointing. I saw this at a good price, and while I'm not drowning in cash, I took a chance that even as open box goods, it would be a significant upgrade. And it was. Truly outstanding sound for its size and good volume range with no distortion. The CD player is a huge improvement over the other unit, which tended to skip on older discs. All said, I'm delighted with my purchase.

Iffy sound
The system arrived well packaged. Easy to set up. Others have mentioned that the CD player is slow to play. This is still an issue.Sound quality is lacking. I knew going in the unit was a low end product but I have a portable radio that sounds better.I will keep it because I wanted something to play CDs and it does that ok.

CD Player Sony
Sony always makes excellent electronic devices. This CD player quality, sound, and price comparable to Boise CD at a third of the cost.

poorly designed, regarding loading time & functions
The sound quality is fine. The problem is that one cannot simply place a CD in the tray, click "play," and walk away.No... you must put in a CD, click "enter," and then wait 20 seconds for the stereo to "read" the CD.Only after--after it is done "reading"--may you click "play."This may seem petty, but every stereo I've used since the mid-90s played automatically with a simple press of a button. This appallingly lengthy delay WILL drive you insane.Furthermore, the remote control must be pointed directly at the stereo receiving lens. Anything besides a perfectly, geometrically straight line betwixt remote control and stereo lens will not register. You'll have to click it again, and again, and again.

Great sound great value
I love this system. I had been looking for a long time for a CD player that was not tacky and in the style of a boombox. I finally found this one and love it. It is compact & the sound is really good! I bought it for my office in my home, and use it daily.
