McCormick Basil Leaves, 5 oz

The McCormick basil leaves I ordered arrived early and just in time to add to salmon salad, which I usually find lackluster and to which I add garlic, oregano, lemon juice, raisins, and mayo to try to improve the bland flavor. I drained a packet of salmon and placed it in a bowl with mayo and some raisins. I was going to start adding all the other spices but first I opened the bottle of McCormick basil leaves and was delighted with the lovely basil fragrance, which I liberally sprinkled on the salmon. I mashed the salmon with the raisins, mayo, finely chopped walnuts, and basil, and then tasted it. The basil elevated and embellished the flavor to such an extent that I did not need the additional spices. Neither lemon juice nor garlic nor oregano were necessary. McCormick is the best company for spices, and their basil leaves have such a wonderful fragrance, that this is the only spice necessary for salmon salad. It comes in a very convenient plastic bottle and at a very fair price point for a generous amount. Another day, I will try Mediterranean tuna pasta, which calls for the boiled pasta of your choice (I use spaghetti al dente), a packet of drained albacore tuna, EVOO, a bunch of spinach leaves (for a Florentine accent), some crushed garlic cloves, the juice of half a lemon, a dash of cayenne pepper, some crushed basil leaves, and a generous sprinkling of Parmesan Romano cheese, which imparts a lovely creaminess to the dish. I have a feeling when I prepare this recipe again, that McCormick basil will be the star of the culinary show. McCormick basil leaves should be in pride of place in every cook's kitchen spice rack.

I love using these bacon flavored bits in my salads and on my morning rice cakes. I use a brown rice cake with a little bit of vegan mayo and a sprinkle of bits on a sliced hard boiled egg. Delightful!
