ZERO JAPAN Ceramic Coffee Dripper for #2 or #4 paper filter - Drip Cone Brewer - Antique Green

Using for about 2 years now, absolutely love it. It rinses easily and goes into dishwasher whenever there's rack space. I love the simplicity of dripper+filter+mug coffee maker. The color choices are nice, especially the antique green and the coffee brown (ahhh, 70s). This was my first coffee dripper and I came back to buy a second backup one, in case the first one ever breaks.Some people have mentioned they're too fragile. I'm very careful with mine, but did knock the upper rim against a mug one time in the dishwasher. No damage. I don't place this casually in sink or anywhere it might be damaged.Some people mentioned they're not sized good to fit standard cups. For some cups, you might not be able to center the dripper on top as desired. You may have to scoot the dripper over to the side of the cup instead, which can make things more wobbly if you're not careful. I do wish they'd change the base for more flexibility, but it's workable.Due to the cup size matter and fragility others mentioned, I don't prep this coffee dripper above my cup. Here's what I do instead...1 - Start the water boiling.2 - Lay out a folded papertowel on the counter.3 - Place dripper onto folded papertowel on the counter.4 - Add paper filter while dripper still on papertowel on counter.5 - Rinse filter in dripper at sink, return it to papertowel on counter.6 - Add coffee grinds, shake it gently to level. Dripper still on papertowel.7 - Wait for boil.8 - When water's ready, place kettle next to cup, so everything's right there available.9 - Place the dripper onto the cup and stabilize it. Don't leave unattended once on cup.10 - Start the pour.11 - When finished, place the dripper back onto folder papertowel to catch drips.Essentially, avoid prepping or leaving the dripper unattended while it's on top of the cup. If you do that, the most risk will be washing, if you bang it against the sink faucet or other dishes.

After buying the Blue Bottle book about coffee, you know, the craft coffee one, (The Blue Bottle Craft of Coffee: Growing, Roasting, and Drinking, with Recipes) I decided that I needed more coffee paraphernalia on my shelves. So I went a-looking.This dripper is recommended by another coffee website that sells unroasted beans and brewing equipment, and I wanted to get a good looking dripper that also had small holes rather than an enormous gaping one (coughV60cough)... Reading around a bit, it seems like the large hole drippers require better technique to get consistently good results. As a beginner in the science/art of pourover, I thought this would do the trick.The other reviewers are right. It's not the thickest porcelain around the bottom. If you dropped this on a stone countertop or a porcelain sink, (is that what they're made of?) it would break into pieces. But that's true of french press carafes and siphon globes and many other pieces of brewing equipment. If you want indestructible, get a plastic Melitta. Or just pour your grounds into your tin mug before you hit the trail, Cowboy.There are little nubs on either side of the cup-rest on the bottom, intended to keep the dripper from sliding around too much. I can only assume they use smaller cups in Japan, because most of my cups do not fit in between them. However, this is of little significance. You can hold it with one hand on your cup, or you can put one side nub in the cup and the other side outside. Or you can make a dripper stand like they do in the cafes if you're an overachiever.It makes a good cup. It looks good. I don't know what more there is. Bonus tip: if you want a long spout device for pourover coffee, but are loath to shell out $40 to $140 for a kettle, I found a little tea kettle thingie in a restaurant supply store. Price? $5. So look around. It's not as pretty as a Hario, but it's functional.Pps. I have used Filtropa #2 White Cone Coffee Filters, 40ct Box with very good results. (I found them at Whole Foods.) As always, pre-rinse before adding coffee, and at the very end of your cup, take the dripper off and let the last water drip into the sink. It can impart some bitterness to your cup if you let the water drain dry through the grounds.

I've been using this as a pour over multiple times a day for over a month, and the glaze remains great and I really appreciate being able to see the coffee level while I'm pouring.I was nervous about the size fitting my cups. So far it fits about everything. Even my widest cups fit just fine, though in one or two cases I need the edges of the dripper to be near the edges instead of dead center of the cup. But it's always incredibly stable and very easy to clean (more-so than my Chemex).I've used some of my old Chemex filters multiple times in this and they come out well (I tent to re-use those filters since they're so thick). The other smaller and thinner filters tend to brew great coffee as well, but I can't re-use those thinner filters. It also supports just about any Number 4 filter from a store.I'd definitely buy again if anything happened to my Zero Japan. I think it's completely replaced my Chemex.

Let me start by addressing the numerous negative comments about "weak coffee." If you get weak coffee from a pour-over dripper, the problem is not the dripper, it's the "drippie." Yes, in other words, user error. The pour-over process requires patience, and there is an art to it. You cannot just dump all of the water in at once and expect good coffee. Variations of the recommended methods are all over the Internet, and even passed along in many coffee-related product reviews here on Amazon -- so I won't spend a lot of words describing mine. In general, I wet the grounds slightly, then gradually drip the hot water into the filter. (If you doubt my method, just observe the way electric coffee makers work. They don't suck all of the water in at once!) Of course, it's also important to make sure the filter contains enough coffee -- my local coffee shop/roaster recommends 2 tbs of medium grind coffee per cup, and that has worked well for me.Okay, on to the product review: The Bee House Ceramic Coffee Dripper is a practical, elegant solution for making an individual cup of coffee to go. My #1 requirement for coffee making equipment is NO PLASTIC. There is enough research out there to suggest that boiling hot water causes harmful chemicals to leach out of plastic materials. Unfortunately, even many of the high-end "stainless steel" coffee makers use plastic for the plumbing and other internal pieces/parts. The "plastic-less" construction, and utter simplicity of ceramic drippers appeals to me.I use Melitta #2 filters with my Bee House dripper, and the coffee definitely on par with that made with my Chemex pour-over system. The curved handle is a great feature. It allows you to easily set the dripper on your cup, and remove it when you're done.The Bee House product is solid, and well made. However, this is both a blessing and a curse. The weight of this dripper tends to make your coffee mug somewhat top-heavy. And you have to be careful to make sure the guides on the bottom surface are inside the rim of the mug, otherwise the dripper feels tippy. I haven't had any accidents yet, but there have been some close calls.So, while I love this product, I think pour-over coffee is more about the process than the equipment. You can probably get the same excellent results from a less expensive ceramic dripper. If I end up breaking my Bee House dripper, I may very well go for something else that costs less money.

I give this 5 stars, though it is not exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something not made in China. This appears to be made in Japan. Also wanted the ability to use common melita-type filters. The round cone kind used on other drippers are pricey and hard to find (in my area, anyway) This dripper is well made, heavy ceramic. That said, if you dropped it it would likely break. It is smaller than I really wanted, but I use a #4 filter, which overlaps outside the holder, and it works ok.If you want to use no.2 filters to make smaller amounts of coffee at a time, this would be an ideal choice. I do wish they made this in a larger size. I like big mugs and this won't fit on top, so I bought a 600ml coffee carafe recommended by another reviewer. It does fit on top of this well. Overall it works for me.

Great pour-over rig. I have a v60 also, and have spent countless hours trying to get a great cup from the v60. Don’t think I ever found great from my v60 but I’ve made plenty of bad cups with it (my fault, not the v60’s). But my point is that it’s a lot harder to make a bad cup from the bee house. It consistently makes good coffee, without having to learn the secret handshake. The only problem I have is that I’ve broken 2 of them (again my fault. They aren’t fragile, but can’t withstand a 4ft drop onto a tile floor). Also the bee house uses filters that you can find anywhere, which is a big plus compared to ordering fancy/expensive filters for other brewers.

I give this 5 stars because as cofge drippers go it is probably one of the best. That said, I have decided I prefer a cheap coffee maker such as a Mr. Coffee. If you know you love coffee drippers and want a coffee dripper then this one is nice because:It is ceramicIt will hold enough coffee to make 4 cupsIt is pretty and comes in lots of colorsIt takes filters that are easy to buy in the average grocery store.The coffee filters pretty slowly so you can pour more water in at once.Coffee houses often use them and they should know a good one.As with other drippers, the thing is very small compared to a coffee maker and can sit in a drawer or cupboard when not in use. As with other drippers, there are no tubes or parts to collect molds, germs, or other junk you don't want in your coffee.But you might not like a coffee dripper because:When you wake up and haven't had your coffee it is a lot easier to just push the on switch and in a few minutes have a whole pot of coffee.If you need more than 4 cups you will need more than 1 paper filter. My Mr. Coffee makes 12 cups with only one filter....or even a reusable filter, which is what we usually use.The coffee gets cold fast without a warming plate.There is a technique to making coffee with a dripper and after about a week I haven't really mastered it yet.I like it...but I like the ease of coffee at the touch of a button a bit more.

Mine arrived broken, and I returned it, but that's not why I am leaving this 3 star review. The three stars are for a few things. One is the color looked nothing like the photo. Antique Green was alluring until it showed up a very dark murky overripe avocado color.Also, I bought the "large" size, which is what I received, but it's not a large. It says it will take a #2 or #4 filter, but it's only really sized for a #2 to fit well. The smaller dripper would likely require a #1 filter for the best fit.On a positive note (the third star) I liked the design and shape of the dripper cone/basket itself: the two holes, their size and spacing, and the general size, shape/contours and depth of it fit my #2 filter quite well. I would love it if this came with a better handle, accurate color and larger circular base.I did not like the design of the ladle type handle. The curve of the handle is not pronounced enough, and does not sit comfortably or securely in the intended grip of your thumb and forefinger. The weight of the dripper is not balanced by the grip of the handle. It feels like it wants to slip out from my grasp and fall, and at some point I'm sure it would.Finally, the shape of the base is just weird and not necessarily aesthetically appealing. While it doesn't affect performance, it still gives you the appearance that it will, which is a quibble, but hey - if you don't like the look of something, it follows that eventually you might not like the thing itself.

I bought this coffee dripper as a gift. I love the elegant design of the handle and the open area on the part that sits on top of the mug so you can see the level of the coffee in the mug. I like the deep green colour and the very fine finish of the dripper a lot. It was a big surprise to me that they had it delivered right on Valentine's Day. Thank you for such a good service.

Beautifully made coffee dripper although the oval shaped base is not very stable on most cups. I think a round base would be better proportioned and provide more support for the larger cone shaped top.

I expected it to be larger than the normal ceramic dripprs that are advertised as it was described as a two cupIf it had been the size of my old two cup plastic dripper I would be happy with itt and would not think it overpriced
