Q: What is the purpose of microwaving it? Can I use it without microwaving ? And what difference will it make

Microwaving the cookie icing emulsifies the ingredients so the icing gets to the correct consistency. Without microwaving the icing will be too runny.

Q: Could you use this for basic cupcake decorating?

Hello! You could use this on cupcakes if you'd like. Please note: Cookie Icing dries hard.

Q: can I put the icing in a pipe bag and use that insead ?

We would not recommend that, as the instructions for use call for microwaving and kneading it to get the correct consistency. The packaging is made to achieve the right consistency, so we wouldn't be able to confirm results if you put it in a piping bag.
